There is a difference in GENUINE emotion. barqhead - 2008-10-30 12:55 PM kaqphin - 2008-10-29 9:46 PM Maybe so. Since I work with loads of teenagers, crying really pizzes me off. That is how they handle getting out of shifts. Turn on the tears, boo hoo, I had a bad day at school and I don't want to come in, boo hoo. My boyfriend dumped me and I can't work right now, waahh.. That is life, people. Sometimes you have to work even when your life sux. And my DD is a drama queen. She was crying about her homework tonight. Stop crying about it and JUST DO IT!!! And don't lie to your Mama So I don't have a lot of patience with tears in these kind of situations. mila - 2008-10-30 12:43 PM lastcall2003 - 2008-10-29 9:36 PM barqhead - 2008-10-29 9:32 PM Doesn't realize she doesn't know and is defensive or just doesn't know squat to do the job properly? doesn't realize she doesn't know and is defensive Mmm hmmm... I feel ya on that. It's tough, especially when you'd like to set them up for success but the situation plus the defensiveness don't make it easy. Im guessing she might be a bit younger? You dont just go into the workforce knowing the correct way to act... sometimes you have to learn the simple things... youd be surprised! And I have lost it at work (twice) and trust me Im pretty sure she did NOT want to cry infront of her boss! In fact thats probably the last thing she wanted to end up happening... Ummmm yeah I would loose my patience with that - there is a BIG difference between someone who just doesnt want to do the work... and someone who wants to do well at their job but is just frustrated with the current situation and doesnt have the work experience yet to know what they should be doing to get there... or the areas they need to work on... Ive worked with both... and I have NO TIME for the first kind! x2 on the "working with teenagers"... my favorite is when MOM or DAD calls.... ugh!!! |

Yeah, OK, I know that was last night's discussion... just teasing . I only watch t.v. when I'm on my trainer... and then I usually watch on demand stuff, so I don't know anything about Futurama (which I think is a grown up cartoon on t.v.?). Is it good? I might have to add it to my list of things to tivo for trainer rides! waidaminute - I missed out on talk about pizza? *sigh* I miss out on all the good stuff |

Also if she is in the early part of her career she may not have had a boss willing to mentor/guide her yet - so she might not know how to recognise it as a good thing. you truly could not have pegged the situation more accurately so, at this point - I hope that some day she will look back on today (or on the days to come) and feel she learned something Umm yeah... I've kinda been there in the past.... things seem better in hindsight sometimes... She might come back tomorrow and be in a better frame of mind - if you can tell her why its a good opportunity it might help - I would have liked to have had someone tell me that straight up (as in a Whats in it for HER - everyone primarily thinks about themselves rfirst right?) absolutely, that is what everyone thinks about first - problem being, she really doesn't have what it takes to do the job having said that - she is very talented and could do great in a different role, so at this point, I view my job as helping her figure out that this isn't for her and to discover and pursue what she is good at and where her passion is Yuck - yeah if she is in the wrong role she is always going to be frustrated |
