Yup... we learned alot yesterday.  Something we should have done long before now was learn about flats.  And it was something I put off.  And then *bam* I hit a deep whole and my back tire was flat in about 100 feet.  Here I was without tube, without CO2, and without knowledge.

Thank heavens I had an angel watching over me and helped me out.  He had the tire off & fixed in like a minute.

Yes, we forget to practice flat tires and the first time you change one can take awhile. Glad it didn't ruin your day!

wandering1 - 2010-07-17 8:53 PM James, hope you did well on your race today.

Tracy, what a great job on the ride, even with a flat tire.  Guess we both need to learn how to change those.

As for me....well...
I had an asthma attack about 9 miles into the 40 mile ride.  (Haven't been diagnosed with asthma)
They pulled me and I ended up in the ER.  I had a chest xray, breathing treatment and have been diagnosed with exercise induced asthma (complete with inhalers).  I feel kind of weird, a little apprehensive about the ride next weekend.  Actually, I'm scared, gonna do the ride because I need to, but still scared.

Sorry to hear about the asthma attack! Be careful about your ride, remember this is only a hobby for the most of us!!

Doing okay.  I'm over the hump with the asthma thing.  My Dr. would rather I not do any tri's for the next 2 weeks, but she said she'd trust my judgment since I'm a medical professional.  We will see how it goes since the next one for us is a week and a half away.

I would like to amend my commitment for the month to 15 miles run/walk.  I will put it under the run in the training but comment if I walked, just to keep track.

Hope everyone else is doing well.

Glad to hear you are doing well after the astma attack, I imagine it was pretty scary!  I would listen to the Dr and take it easy!  There will always be other tris you can do once you get this controlled.

and of course we will allow a medical exception and amend your goals. This is all about getting healthy and having fun!

Gotta kick my own bootie into gear.  Don't know what's up with me.  Hitting it early in the am with a double swim workout to get caught up.  Then a run after work.

We have another ride on Sunday.  A 25 miler this time.

This week has been WEAK for me also. Thank God my plan was for a recovery week because I feel like I did not put much into it. I slept in today and did not get up!

Ok, I am back (James, no race to report!) Just spent a week in NYC on a family vacation and we had a great time.  I don’t recall walking so much ever in my life!  We did everything that tourists are supposed to do so it was non-stop from morning till late.  Needless to say, all training took a backseat except for one morning when I got up early to run around Central Park from the hotel.

Looks like everyone moved forward on their goals so I need to get moving!

Hi, Everyone.  Remember me? Wink  Over the past few weeks, a heat wave, a family vacation with a heat wave, and a bit of general demotivation wreaked havoc on my training schedule. There was a 5k on our vacation that a bunch of us ran.  When it started at 8am, it was already 90 degrees with at least 90% humidity.  So I didn't hit any of my goals this month.  I'll be setting new ones for August.  I signed up for two more races today.  My local YMCA's putting one on next weekend, and another one in the end of august.

I must have a race coming up because I am once again having dreams about forgetting equipment for a race.  This one was funny.  In my dream I had a dream that I forgot my bike.  Still in the dream, I went to the race, and got to T1 to discover that I didn't have a bike.  Laughing   The Pittsburgh Tri is sunday morning.  I've always wanted to swim the river by the point in Pittsburgh, and Sunday I'll get to.

Thanks for sharing the article about "that guy".  He passed me on the bike twice in my first race; I recognized his sponsored jersey.   But you're absolutely right.  We're all "that guy" or "that girl" too.  On our vacation, a lot of my extended family expressed incredulity and amazement along with a little respect as they told me I was crazy for doing tris.

Spent some time with a swim coach this evening.  Very helpful.  Although he could tell I had been swimming for a little while, he also picked up on my bad habits very quickly.  I am planning on a coaching session each Wed for a while.  One upside is it's a different pool bottom to look at Smile.  Unfortunately, it is an indoor pool that was wetsuit friendly.  105 degrees outside to 32 degree pool (it had to be) to 105 degree outside again.  I went home with the windows down to warm up.

Also, he is only charging $25 / month.  So far, priceless.

That is a reasonable price for sure!  I know when I spent time at the Master;s class (coach on deck) I made my greatest improvements swimming!

Drove down to Arkadelphia this morning to do a recon on the Tri Arkansas course next weekend.  One of the lessons from my last triathlon was to at least drive the course just to know what to expect.

The group that I met had arranged for a couple of kayakers for safety.  My second OWS this year with the first being almost two months ago at the Ozark Valley Triathlon.  Took me a little while to get used to the missing black line, but by 6-700 yards I was there.  Tried to remember what the swim coach told me earlier in the week and work on form.

No stress, no transitions, just get familiar with the course.  On the bike, there were a couple of downhills that I need to spinup that could carry me up the next hill.

Now I have a whole week to run the race over and over.  And, hopefully, I won't oversleep.

My first Olympic distance is in the bank.

3:01:33
8/9 age group
unknown overall (results not yet posted)

Swim time is improving at a 2:20 pace.
Bike time was too conservative.  I keep thinking stay comfortable and save it for the run.
Run time is the weak event.
Transitions went very well.

Waiting on overall results for the Race Report.

Scott
