The 'warm-up' right before each race is a possibility. But practice swims on Friday or after the Olympic race on Saturday is out.

will6899 - 2010-04-15 6:12 PM Are you serious that  there will be no warm up swim at the beach there?  I think that is not right!!!  we were able to go out on the beach last year to warm up and I dont think there was no problems.  I did cut my foot but it did not bother me and I still raced.

Trin2bfast - 2010-04-16 9:13 AM For those of us not able to make the lunch, is there a chance for a BT meet & greet (maybe group photo op) somewhere in expo area?  I'd like to actually put some faces & names together, shake some hands and doll out some well wishes for the day of racing to fellow BT'ers.

As we are about to enter the final week before race day... I hope everyone feels good, gets your final training sessions in, tapers well and heads into the? ??r?a?c?e? w?e?e?k?e?n?d?? ?f?r?e?s?h? ?a?n?d? ?r?e?a?d?y???

Sounds good best to suggest time and place.

All the women start later in the morning so potentially we could meet sometime race morning briefly.

Other thing is to exchange cell numbers. Anyone wants mine PM me.

I just wanted to weigh in a I read most of the thread right now. I have never done this race before in Glaveston and am really looking forward to it. Biggest concern is the heat and humidity, but I am sure it is for everyone. It is motivating reading everyone's messages. I know my wave is now at 7:35 am with 113 other goofballs in the water all splashing around. I keep reading about no practice swimming on Friday or Saturday - where does everyone plan to get a practice swim in? I think that is odd- I did my first IM in CDA last yr and you could practice swim every day before the race, although they did have designated times for it. Anyway, good luck to everyone! As far as women going last, I don't know about that as I have seen plenty of fast women in these races that gender really doesn't seem to matter.

Good Luck!

The whole reason we are going down early was to swim Friday and Saturday.  Does anyone know of anywhere else we can swim?  Do they consider the area by the paddle wheel boat as property of Moody Garden.

i haven't asked him about a swim location other than moody gardens.  moody gardens suggested the boat ramp on 61st street.  i agree with you're earlier post frank, that's not a good idea.

We arrive at Hobby at 11am. We hope to swim some place Friday and again Saturday. We may stop by at the lake mentioned on the other thread on the way to Galveston Friday.

It's a great venue to swim Kathy.  Y'all could easily slide by 288 lake and then head into Galveston...
Fattyfatfat has a good map of the swim course with the distances if you are interested in that as well...

Hey fatty, pay attention... you may have to lend your geogrpahy skills to the group! lol!

You mean you can't just go and swim whenever?

How long would it take to get there from Hobby? If we arrive 11am, get my bike in rental, I figure we'll be out of airport around noon.

Now I guess we need a plan B. I don't want to sit around waiting until 2...maybe we could go eat then swim and upset all our mothers.

Or maybe best to just try to swim at race site.

Decisions...decisions....

its a private lake.  and we're using the term lake here fairly loosely.  it's nice water... but not very big.  you can see it on either of the maps below.

15 minutes from hobby. map

~1 hour from there to moody gardens  map

personally, that seems like more of a hassle to get off a plane, go swimming, dry off then head to galveston.  but we could try to find a few people that would meet you there at 12.  owner said he'll open at noon if 5 people show up.

I think I'm going to take my chances and swim Friday afternoon.  I know all the sprints and olys will be trying to get in the water.  They can't kick us all out.  And then take my chances again on Saturday afternoon

from our ride this morning.  lol!

that's brand new smooooooth blacktop in the westbound lane.  doesn't cover the entire ride out to the pass, but a good portion of it.

Come on we start at 7:55 and let's say have horrible swim on our bikes at 8:55 that gives us 4.5 hours to finish...I think we can do that even with some bike issues.

Today was my last long run 70' and it was sprinkling and in upper 30s. I had to dig out my winter stuff which I had put away earlier in the week. Next long run I'll do will be 13.1 and say in the 70s some 40 degrees warmer...next Sunday.

I know, even on my worst day that should not be an issue.  Was glad to hear that the road conditions are good.

Big bummer..hope the volcano in Iceland calms down and you can make it. European flights are a mess from what I've seen on the news.

Keep us informed what it looks like later in the week. Hope by Thursday things are back to normal flight wise.

To the amusement of many Kevin & I did short swim in our wetsuits at our local YMCA.  Pool was over 80 so I didn't keep mine on for long but glad to get one swim in before flying to TX. Glad we can do another swim Friday after we land at Hobby.

I'm getting excited and having that pre first race of the season nerves.

So which way do we hope the wind blows if it isn't still and calm Sunday?

I still would put in a weather request for 65 and sunny without wind if possible.

I'm enjoying tapering but am busy with kids off school this week and test riding possible new bikes plus add in packing.

How's everyone else doing?
