Can someone tell me what PR means? I am knew to all this lingo.

Terri, I am concerned about your feet. My friend Bob owns a healthy foot shoe store in Green Bay. He says the main problem for runners with plantar fat... how ever you spell it is pronation. It can be corrected with good arch support and the proper shoes. He sells Aetrex.

My friend couldn't even run because her knees were so bad. She went to Bob, got arch supports and Aetrex shoes and is doing great.

Don't forget, registration for the Door County Tri opens on Jan 1st.

Has anyone come up with a hotel yet?  I'm goint to try to find something in Egg Harbor, but if that doesn't work, there's a fairly new Super 8 in Sturgeon Bay wich is about 20 miles away.  Thoughts?

You might want to book the Super 8. It is a quick 20 minute drive. I drive up from Kewaunee. It is like an hour drive for me.

Totals for today,

6 cans Diet Dr. Pepper; 24 oz water; 1 can Pepsi (fell off the wagon). Was on the trainer today wow did I lose a lot of muscle. So much in fact I'm considering myself as starting from nothing, good thing I started now I wouldn't want to be just starting out in the spring.

Anybody have any recommendations for good workout songs? I listen to just about anything though I tend to favor the one off stuff, Dick Dale; Sara Dashew; Belly; B-52's. I also have more mainstream on my MP3 player as well, Jimi Hendrix; Judas Priest; ZZ Top and a LOT of Jimmy Buffett; etc.

Our coach wanted us to do either Spirit of Racine or Door County.  Both involved overnights and travel which we were unable to do last year because of family situations.  We were willing to do some local sprints but she didn't want us to interrupt training with short races.  She scheduled some interesting workouts to simulate racing and race pace.  I know now, nothing replaces the racing experience.

So, don't follow our lead and go into an IM having only done a couple of sprints!  Wink

Is it better to do one long work out a day or break it up into two shorter ones? One in the morning and one in the afternoon.

Also I finally figured out what I can teach all you uber-athletes and pay you all back for the help and encouragement I've gotten. So here it is the one thing I can teach you all is...never ever stop exercising. Not even for an injury, do something else if you need to but never stop. If you do you will suddenly realise it's 18 months later you've gained 60 pounds and have lost ALL you previously hard win fitness.

I have been told I have a slight pronation, thus was encouraged to buy the Superfeet.  Seems like this all kicked in since I have been using them.  Now I wonder if it is too late to try without them or if I need to get an orthodic.

For weight loss I would say two- IF its doable.  Its just another kick start to the metabolism.

So are we gonna get before and after pictures???

For what its worth I have costum made orthodics and they are the best thing I ever did for my running

I don't know if my camera has enough memory space of something my size.

Can you post pictures in the body of a message or would they have to be put somewhere else?

Hey Door County Tri People,

I called Super 8 and they said the only 8 in Door Cty has been there for many years.  Does anyone have any other info, or ideas on another place to stay?

Thanks for checking on the Door County Super 8.  I thought it was newer than that.  I have a cousin who grew up in sturgeon bay, and I'll be seeing her this weekend.  I'll check with my aunt too, she still lives in SB.

Ok just remember this was asked for so I'm not responsible for any desks being broken by the computers suddenly gaining weight.

Here's my before picture taken this morning, I tried to find a Scott Tinley photo to put in as my after pic but couldn't get a good one.

George

Edit: Ok that didn't work but my starting picture is in my album for all that's interested.

Hi group...  I'm sorry to burst in like this, but I didn't see this group until just now and it caught my eye... and I would beg, borrow and steal to be in this group.

I have three year old twin boys!!!  I would really love the support from a group that knows where I'm coming from.

A quick little bit about me - married, mom to twins, live in Atlanta, been working out for 2 years and decided to do a sprint tri this year... just to see if I could do it.  I'm registered for "My First Tri" on June 5th!

Please let me know if I can sneak into your group!  I don't take up much room, don't eat much, and clean up after myself!!  lol

~Jennifer

Thanks Tammy!

I'm Polly (BT name - SweetP, which is a pet name from my hubby).  I ran track in high school and have always been sort of active, but hubby and I decided to tackle triathlons in 2007.  I only did 2 sprints and had high hopes for 2008.   In February of 2008, we were in FL on vacation and I was running to build my base and had some pain in my arm etc.  When we got home I found out I had a DVT (blood clot) in my arm and 5 in my lungs - that landed me in the hospital for 8 days and put a damper on my season.  I had some other medical issues on top of that and I think fear was a big factor.  I only did 1 sprint in August of 2008 and it was rather painful.

I do teach a couple spin classes at the YMCA, and now that I got Yaktracks for Christmas have no reason not to run more.

Personal:  I'm married to David (BT = Brickey) going on 13 years, we have 3 boys (10, 9, and 5).  I'm a stay at home Mom.  I need help with motivation, and accountability, so I'm super stoked to be in this group.  Plus, I'm a big Tammy fan.    My husband is doing IMKY this year, and I want to help him with his training.  I'm not sure where my 2009 goals for triathlons are yet - I've been wavering a bit.  I need to get back in to training and rebuild some of my confidence.

Great to be here - I'm off to read the rest of this forum and "catch-up" with you all.

Polly
