My son-in-law needed to watch Rowan and get the laundry done... so he put Rowan to sleep in the basket... I hope they were warm from the dryer....

I remember those days, love my granddaughter but I am VERY glad it is him worrying about this stuff...

The salt should make any difference unless you have a serious high blood pressure problem... that is not much, I think it is less than is on a salted potato chip...

Today's inspiration is:

I have the courage to enjoy getting and receiving love.

Not all of these inspirations are fitness related, but if they help us become a more well-rounded person...

Cheri,

I love the inspirations...keep em coming!!!!!

I think there are balances in everything in life, food is one of them...unless you have some medical issues I don't think a little sodium will hurt you, I drink 3/4 gallon of tap water a day, I also drink juices ie:grape, cranberry etc... The thing I know is a culprit for me is diet drinks, so I have stopped drinking them, haven't had one in 4 days...woohoo. I think the most important things to remember when making a dietary lifestyle change would be; eat live foods - not processed, eat 5 times a day (two snakes and 3 meals), Eat big for breakfast, medium for lunch and small for dinner, drink tea's-juices-water, only drinks sports drinks during and right after training, limit red meat, and eat fish, eat 1oz of walnut/almonds everyday, and eat your fruits and veggies...Most people eat to much at a sitting, so you may want to decrease portion size a little. You have to be very careful trying to diet when you in an intense training program...be mindful that your body will suffer if you don't give it enough nutrients to burn.

I'm not a doctor or dietician...just lived long and made a lot of dietary mistakes along the way.

Ok Amy, I agree with the live foods comment but I draw the line at snakes!

Actually what you say makes a lot of sense.  I took a weight management class awhile back, and frequent eating and lots of water were exactly what they taught us.  The other thing is when you hit a plateau, you need to increase your calorie intake for awhile.  Apparently your body thinks it is going into starvation, and you need to feed it to boost your metabolism.

And as Amy said, I'm not a doctor or dietician either, but I am able to maintain my weight by following some simple rules.

since i am such a beginner, if a woman with a hippo avatar tells me to eat 2 snakes a day................fresh or frozen?garter?     hey i did my first wind trainer session on my bike today, it was ok. as i have mentioned before i fear the bike. i know this is weird but even on the wind trainer.  and i did it.  anxiety has stopped me for so many years from living the life i desire. yet another small step was taken today.   "feel the fear, then do it anyway" thanks for your help on the perrier water. this nutrition advice is  so helpful. in the past (like last year) i would try to follow training nutrition where all you ate was sweet potatos and chicken (a few other things) but every day, needless to say i would crash.  does any one else here have problems with late nite eating ?i mean like getting out of bed a 2 am making a sandwich.

Cath, what does your calorie consumption during the day look like?  Are you taking in enough during the day?  What time are you going to bed?  I'm trying to look at the key things that make us hungry.   Can you give us any other insight?

Cath you crack me up, but I didn't say eat 2 snakes, just one...

I am sooooo proud of you for facing your fears...that is a very difficult thing to do, that show's you are a women of guts and strength!!!!!!
I used to wake in the night hungry, but since I eat more during the day, and eat a banana right before bed and I sleep through the night, be sure you are eatting enough through the day.
This is a good eatting day for me:
6:00am banana
7:00am oatmeal with fresh or frozen berries
10:00am 1oz almonds
11:30am turkey or tuna 2 pc whole wheat bread, 6 tricuits
3:00pm fruit or veggies
5:30pm depends, but basically 4oz chicken, fish or venison, salad or veggies
7:00 cream of wheat (brown sugar or flavored) or Oatmeal with 1tsp butter/splenda, or Oat cereal, you know something comparable.
8:30 banana

You do need to switch things up each week so you can shake your metabolism up.

I always fill a gallon jug of water and drink at least 3/4 of it each day. I drink a lot of green tea, or other teas, and I drink coffe with splenda, and low cal creamer.

We will all find our way together.

My top three goals for 2009...

1. Tackle the freestyle stroke and get some experience/confidence swimming in open water.
2. Get over my fear of clipless pedals and gain more confidence riding in traffic.
3. Pay more attention to my nutrition = weightloss & not getting sick as often.

Hmmmm, as far as the race goes. I was planning/training for my first Olympic distance race which takes place at the beginning of March. With my mom's illness (she is still in the hospital and will probably be there for a while) I might have to rethink that one. I will continue to train, as time permits, and see how things go in another week.

Good luck with your swimming and your clipless pedals!!!! I hope your Mom is doing better.
We are here when you need us.

Hi Cath -- hit the quote button instead of the reply button.  It takes a little while to get used to this.

Our daily inspiration today is:

I have the courage to face and transform my fears.

Cath has already done this!  Way to go girl!!!  Maybe you can tell us how you did it?

A lot of my fears are wrapped up with not believing what I am capable of.  This might sound crazy, but if you never push yourself you don't set yourself up for failure.  So stretching outside of your normal bounds is one way to face and transform your fears.  Any others?

Good Morning everyone. We have a two hour delay for school due to snow, I have a 30 min. run in my training today, so I will decide during work if I can go outside or have to drive 50 min. to the gym to run there. Does anyone else miss those summer days when you could just go out and run in shorts and sweat profusely!?!?

Remember to be nice to yourself today, just swim-bike or run... your worth it

I will probably sneak a peek here at lunch time. Everyone have a great day!!!!!!

good morning all.one of my favorite quotes is from Bob Greene (oprahs trainer)....."We were put on earth to elevate our selves, not demean ourselves" i have punished myself in to many ways to mention over the years and i had to get professional help before i could even realize this ( very sad but enlightening light bulb moment)When my first daughter was born (1998) i vowed i would be strong and confident and healthy, you know, a role model but, the fears just went to another level and i was even more paralized than before. it has taken me 47 years to say my gifts out loud.(i say them as often as i can, it is healing for me)   here are a few.  i have the gift of athleticism (sp?). humor, nurturing,i plan and execute great vacations,i am a good cook,i can make my kids laugh so hard they have to pee,i am brave (that was a hard one to say) anyway there is just a few.  my anxieties are pretty complex (whos aren't) but those are a few of my coping skills.  thanks for asking.   my schedule has me swimming 30 minutes today and  the pool is open YAY!!!! it is snowing big fluffy white flakes today  very pretty.  talk soon  cath
