Veteran 248 | Subject: RE: Timberman - Half Iron : Official Thread that is too funny. best of luck to the boston marathon-ers, and everyone w upcoming races. i am in wk 7 of the BT HIM plan for a June HIM, and have been running 3x a week, swimming 2x, and biking (trainer - soo boring) 2 or 3x a week. Feb's numbers were decent for me for base period building: run - 60 mi bike - 141 mi swim - 13,000 yds I have not spent enough time on the bike, but look forward to outside rides to fight the boredom of the basement. |

Well, I suppose my volume isn't shamefully short, but my speed is another story. Still, my goal is to finish and the race isn't for months. I think I'll just calm down and train. All within a reasonable drive to the race. I am staying with my folks a little beyond Meredith in Center Harbor and my drive that morning last year to park at Gunstock was only 40 mins. |

Pro 3804 Seacoast, NH! | Subject: RE: Timberman - Half Iron : Official Thread Thanks! I called pretty much every place within a 20 min radius and they are all booked. Should have called a lot earlier evidently! We are in Portsmouth, NH. It's a solid hour drive out, so in worst case scenario, we could just drive up that morning. |

An hour drive shouldnt be too big of a deal anyway because most of us will spend at least an hour in our cars in line just waiting to get into the park. I think last year I was sitting for close to 90 minutes!! Edited by MikeJ 2010-03-09 7:21 PM |

Veteran 248 | Subject: RE: Timberman - Half Iron : Official Thread runnerx, im definitely interested. i was out today in the light rain for a nice hour ride thru the swamp. not too much traffic, only had to gesture to two cars to slow down. it was sorta cold, but i wore bike shorts, wasnt too bad. in case u ever see me, im on the black cervelo, white or blue/white helmet. usually huffing and puffing trying to hit that elusive 20 mph.... are you doing the watchung lake doc-n-sok sprint may 23? (www.greenbrookracing.com) if you can it would be great to meet up. easy swim in the stinky lake, some nice hills on the 10 mi bike, and a good run. small event (maybe 300-400 racers) but i love it cause it's 15 mins from my home. plenty of food and snax for family....and a great season kickoff.... lets ride soon! Expert 868 CALEDONIA/MIDDLEVILLE, MICHIGAN | Subject: RE: Timberman - Half Iron : Official Thread John... If you read my blog, this is funny, "in case u ever see me, im on the black cervelo, white or blue/white helmet. usually huffing and puffing trying to hit that elusive 20 mph....". If you didn't read my blog it's an interesting coincidence. To All Timberheads... Speaking of my blog. I just posted an interview I conducted with a friend of mine who has had many very cool experiences. Here are some examples: His fifth triathlon lifetime was the Hawaii Ironman, he raced bicycles in Europe, his team competed and performed well at this year's Snowshoe Nationals, and some of his good friends are professional triathletes I'm sure you will recognize. So, if you feel like it, and want to take the time, check it out. On another note...I'm starting to feel like a swimmer again and I'm gaining ground with cycling and running. I had a solid 44+ mile ride this past Monday (and hope to go 30-40 tomorrow), I had a wonderful tempo 4-miler where I averaged 6:12 p/mi on Wednesday, and a relaxed 8 mile this morning with a friend of mine. Good stuff. (OH!!! The ice on our lake is finally melting. I see water!!!) Sooo, I will be kicking your a**. (Just kidding...it just seemed like a funny thing to say at the moment. I've got a long way to go and I'm still trying to keep my pieces and parts from falling off). Keep it on. Peace, ~Sam |

I expect you to hand me a cold drink, a bagel and a banana when I cross the finish line at Timberman, because you probably will be refueled, showered, and changed into street clothes by the time I stagger across the line. |

Like your blog, I will have to start reading more often. And nice job on 6:12 - 4 miler. I'm probably several years (ok, maybe one more year) away from that pace, but happily I have seen my pace increase and HR decrease over the last 3-4 months so I am quite pleased. Train safe! |

Regular 91 | Subject: RE: Timberman - Half Iron : Official Thread I'm a bit nervous about cut off times!! In reading the Timberman information it talks about a time from the start of the final wave. Can someone tell me about how many waves there are and how they are arranged. I am in the Female 43 age group. This is my first HIM and I just want to make sure I am not pulled off the course for not making the cut-off times. |

I am not sure about the order of the age-group waves, but the cut-off times are as follows (from http://www.ironmantimberman.com/info.php: Swim: 1 hour and 10 minutes after final wave start Bike: 5 hours and 30 minutes after final wave start Run: 8 hours and 30 minutes after final wave start So all cut-off times are from the start of the final swim wave. Hope this helps. Cheers, Mandy |

You will get your swim in AND you will have extra time. You might even want to swim it again just to show that you could! John...thanks for reading my blog. I hope you keep returning. I had a good run and swim yesterday...looking forward to getting out on my Litespeed for the first time this season. The tri bike wants some road time too. Peace. |

This will also be my first HIM, and I'm worried about the cut-off times as well. I have registered for early season stand-alone events (1.2 mi OWS, 2 half-marys, and hilly bike tours of 50+ miles) to verify I can complete the individual distances within the cut-off times. Once I know I can do that, I'll spend the rest of my training trying to put it all together. Do you have a similar strategy?
Good Luck, Jackie |

Expert 868 CALEDONIA/MIDDLEVILLE, MICHIGAN | Subject: RE: Timberman - Half Iron : Official Thread OK...Everybody just calm down. YOU CAN DO THIS. You are all going to make great gains, you are going to cover the distances, you are going to gain the confidence you need, and you are going to cross that finish line with a smile on your face and your arms raised. April...May...June...July...and Much of August. Take a deep breath, have faith in your plan, and you will see that you are capable of doing this and you have time to prepare. Don't look at yourself today and expect to finish Timberman. In August, if you are still freaked out, I'll try to talk you off the ledge, but for now there's no reason to be on the ledge. So, if you climbed up on the ledge, climb down. You will be fine. Be patient. Who am I to say all of this?...sombody, nobody, anybody. It doesn't matter, I just want you to believe in yourself and later call yourself a TIMBERMAN! |

So, if you climbed up on the ledge, climb down. Greetings from the ledge! Seriously, if I don't complicate this and blow it WAY out of proportion, I'm going to need a whole new personality. Fear is motivation LOL. Had a solid ride in the beautiful weather earlier this evening. A little slow, but 2200 ft. of elevation gain over 22 miles, so it wasn't a cakewalk. I know I'll be ready, but I'm just going to worry until my toes hit the sand at the swim start--that's just part of my charm. Thanks for the encouragement. Jackie |

Expert 868 CALEDONIA/MIDDLEVILLE, MICHIGAN | Subject: RE: Timberman - Half Iron : Official Thread Hey, if worrying is going to get you to the starting line...rock it out. Nice ride today by the way. A challenging 22-miler on a weekday...excellent. I made it 8 miles on my Litespeed, then sptesssst!!! Rear flat. Changed it relatively quickly for me, then my friend and I brought it home just in case the change wasn't done well...plus we ran out of time. Great to be out on my Litespeed again though. It LOVES to go fast. Peace, ~Sam Mandy...glad you are enjoying my blog. I appreciate the encouragement as I gain some footing with it. |
