iowagander - 2009-10-27 5:20 PM Good afternoon Ghoulies. I got about 3.5 in today at lunch. The weather here was great for running today - about 65, cloudy, and a nice stiff breeze in the face on the way back.

Tomorrow is going to be kind of a crappy day at work, but I may try to do some speedwork and/or ST. Now I need to figure out what to make for dinner... I'm thinking fish or chicken. We'll see.

Nice job Tom!  I had to make the same decision for dinner.  I went with chicken.

WAY TO GO TOM....running conditions sound perfect!

its almost worse KNOWING that your gonna have a crappy day.  anything you can do to change that?

DH is out at a meeting (almost NEVER happens) so i took the boys out for pizza.  about as non-Paleo as you can get.  LOL.

what did you decide fish or chicken?

im guessin'........FISH.

heres to your day being less crappy than you expect it to be.

stacieb

I haven't yet figured out how to pre-emptively fix crappy days, but I'm working on a few projects.

I decided to go with grilled chicken seasoned with lemon/lime and a little garlic salt with a mediterranean salad and garlic bread. It's one of my usuals, but it's very yummy.

when you figure out the crappy day fixin' thing, let me know, k?   i have a few im sure ill have to fix myself anyday now.

and damn i was all wrong on the dinner prediction.

guess i dont have powers of premonition when it comes to food.  and here i thought i was UBER intuitive.

grilled chix w lemon/lime and a little garlic salt, salad and garlic bread.  YUMM-O.

but w all the garlic, im glad im not rubbing elbows with you.

good choice.  im gonna have to try that one!

stacieb

The garlic on the chicken is actually very understated. It's usually the vinaigrette the prevents too much elbow rubbing, but it's SOOO good!

homemade or bottled?

if homemade, id LOVE the recipe.

if bottled, name/brand.

pretty pwease

[putting on  that puppy dog look again]

stacieb

How can I resist the puppy dog look? Paul Newman's Balsamic Vinaigrette. Homemade is a little beyond my patience level.

The salad is really easy too: Romaine lettuce, red onion, cucumber, green and/or red peppers, calametta olives, feta cheese, and strawberries. I know those sound weird in there, but it was my wife's idea and it really adds something awesome to the mix.

Great job and next time let us know when you are not going to be around until noon please

We were very close to sending out the search parties

awwwww.

you missed me.

i would have been home by noon (next time i WILL let you know, we need one of those in/out boards like they have at office bldgs)

but i left 1/2 of my friggin' workout stuff at the Y.

holy crapoly.  i got all the way home and realized that i left my tri suit, goggles and cap in the womens locker room.

turns out, not only did i forget that, i left my iPod, my hat, my cycling gloves AND my stopwatch too.

ARE YOU FRIGGIN' KIDDING ME???

ive lost my mind i think.

yesturday i completely forgot about a lunch date i had w friends of mine.  missed out on PRIMANTI BROS SANDWICH.  damnitall.

WTF???

I'M BLAMING IT ON THE TAPER.

Can I assume that you got everything back alright?  You would probably be a little more upset right now.

i did NEAL.  thankfully.

though i did PANIC.

i inadvertently left a bathing suit behind before (see a pattern here).  i went back to get it, and it was G-O-N-E.

i know. totally ewwwwwish.   a bathing suit??   wtFLIP.

its like taking someones underwear.

i didnt even realize i left my iPod until i go there.

good thing, cuz i would have SUPER DUPER UBER FREAKED OUT!!

theres not enough time from now until the 1/2 MARY to replace all the music.

woosh.

stacieb

Good to hear all was recovered.

And, yeah, EEEEWWWWW on the swimsuit.  Who does that?

I myself have donated several sets of goggles to those less fortunate pool goers

aspeelma - 2009-10-27 6:14 PM Good evening Ghoulies!!! I have a story for the ages. So go get your favorite beverage, sit down in your favorite chair and enjoy my adventure.

I had planned a semi- easy 4 mile run this evening. This morning it was pouring down rain, it rained most of the day, but by the time I got home it was nothing more than a mist and 54 degrees. I got dressed and realized my jacket that I love to run in was in my husbands truck which was in Gettysburg. I got new arm warmers the other day, I'm thinking it's not raining I can wear them. So I finish getting dressed and head out the door at 4:30.

I'm running along thinking about which way I want to go. There is a side road off of the road that I usually take that I've been thinking about trying. It goes out a little way and hits the highway, but that's ok because I'm only going 4 miles, an out and back. I'm still running along and I get past my halfway point a little bit and decide to turn around and head home. I run farther than halfway because I despise running up the hill I live on so I usually walk it as my cool down. I hadn't headed too far home and 2 BIG Rottweiler's come flying across a yard barking at me in that way that I don't like to hear dogs bark. I want you all to know here that I am a dog person, I love dogs. I have 2 dogs, my friends have dogs, dogs don't scare me, these dogs did. There's a fence along the road so I jump up onto the fence quick near a tree thinking I can climb onto a limb if I have to, my luck it's a tall tree... no low limbs. There is a creek there and the dogs wouldn't cross the creek, but I'm still scared. Since I didn't see them on my way past the first time I'm thinking someone got home from work and let them out. If my dogs had been out barking like these two I'd have gone outside to see what the problem was, no one did that. I had my Garmin  on, for 12 minutes I'm on top of this fence wondering what to do next and the dogs never stopped barking at me. In the mean time it starts to rain.

I finally decide I've had enough of this. I know if I keep going out the road I'll come out at the highway and I can get home from there. I start slowly moving myself back across the fence further and further away from the dogs. I get about 50 yards away from them and climb down from the fence and start walking beside it. I finally get around a tiny bend and I start running, the dogs were still barking but they never came after me. I thought that the road I was on could come out at a gas station and I could just cross the highway and head into town and head home. Today just wasn't my day.

I get to the end of the road and it comes out on the highway but not at the gas station. Across the road is trees. There is a lane there that heads back in the direction I need to go but there is no outlet. The lane was called Long Lane, they weren't kidding, over .75 miles. I get to the end and decide to cross the highway. I can cross, run down along the guard rail and cross someone's yard onto the road that will take me to the road I need to get to to go home. I cross the highway no problem and realize the guard rail is a lot longer than I thought and I wanted to get off the side of the highway. I decide to run through someone's field. Sorry Mr. Field owner about the footprints. Running through a plowed field in the rain and mud is not the best idea if you have other options, I did not. I stayed along the edge, along the woods and finally into his yard. Then I hit the main road. I had already gone past my 4 miles. The rest of the way home is pretty uneventful other than the rain.

5.33 miles later I was home, wet and muddy, but home. It would have been easy to give up and walk, but I ran for my Ghoulies! When I was sitting on the fence, literally, I told myself to HTFU and get myself out of that situation. So that's what I did. My extra 1.33 miles puts me at 49.95 miles of my 50 mile goal. I am 99.9% complete.

Tom - I don't care if you are on top tonight, my legs are tired.

Have a good evening all, I hope you enjoyed my run.

Wow, what a run!  I'm glad you made it home in good, but muddy shape.

Those loose dogs can be scary.  I've had several close calls while on my bike, including one that bit me in the ankle

I love dogs and have 2 of my own, but I firmly believe that dogs should have fences around them, for everyone's safety.

I'm glad you made it back safely, and I commend your extra effort.  A little jog down the block tomorrow, and you can take the rest of the month off.  Smile
