Veteran 280 Glens Falls | Subject: RE: Boston Beginner's Mentor Group - CLOSED I too want to wish everyone a Happy/New Years. See you all on the other side--time to ramp it up for the 2010 season. (having a good time figuring out what's going to keep me warm on this cold, snowy evening-maybe if I run in the middle of pack and then just sprint it out at the last few feet-Haha) Everyone have a very nice weekend. |

Extreme Veteran 310 | Subject: RE: Boston Beginner's Mentor Group - CLOSED I have a question. I have a really hard time riding in my drop bars on my bike. It hurts my shoulders. Is that a bike fit problem, or is it something I just need to get used to? It's bad enough I try to ride in the drops for 30 seconds at a time, and by 20 seconds I am counting down until I can get back up again. |

Veteran 280 Glens Falls | Subject: RE: Boston Beginner's Mentor Group - CLOSED Hello Everyone - made it through my race last night (only my second 5K in my running life) Must admit it was a bit different as there were 1,000 runners with a mass start. It seemed that the first 100yds we were walking because of the crowed conditions. Add some snow and a few slushy parts on the down hills and it made for an interesting run--I am running around 9 min miles--so I know that I need to cut my time down quite a bit-but it's a start. Hope everyone had a nice evening and enjoy your New Years Day (I have the pleasure of working today-ahhh gotta love Health Care) |

Extreme Veteran 310 | Subject: RE: Boston Beginner's Mentor Group - CLOSED Happy New Year! I think I'm going to bore my family to death today watching the Kona coverage on Universal Sports. I just want to post my vote for putting an asterisk or something at the beginning of our group name so it is easier to find. Or is that like marking your transition spot with a balloon? |

At the risk of getting picked on.....Copy the address to our group up there in your address bar, then open up your dashboard and give our group whatever name is appropriate - then highlight it with the curser - then up where all the little symbols are...you will findsomething that looks like a chain link (not the broken one) click it. When the little bos opens up, paste the address into the top box and...viola! You have a direct link from your training log to the group. No more scrolling to find it. Anyway...Happy New Year Everyone! |

I was recovering from our party last night, but now that we are in the year that I am doing my first IM, I pretty much frightened myself into training. I will be doing something tomorrow. Anyone else?

Veteran 280 Glens Falls | Subject: RE: Boston Beginner's Mentor Group - CLOSED I am looking at that the 2010 race sch for my surronding area and notice just how many there are! What is a good time frame to enter races--how much should you space them out? (I have a Sprint in June-two weeks later I am looking at another Sprint) Looks easy enough but thought I would use our group--that's what we are here for-right? |

(I have a Sprint in June-two weeks later I am looking at another Sprint) Looks easy enough but thought I would use our group--that's what we are here for-right? Good questions. This is going to be real general but it depends on you. I never did anything athletic before my first sprint and I was hurting for a couple of days after. If you have some sort of athletic background, I think a couple of weeks are alright for another race. I try and do 1 race a month from May to August. I did 2 HIM exactly 2 months apart last year. That was good spacing. Also remember, if you are training for longer distances, some of these smaller distance races can be used as a great training day. I know people who use HIMs as IM training days. |

(I have a body glove-fit is pretty good-long sleeve) Preferences? Any swim specific one will do. I found that the full suit ones can be kind of constricting at first, but once they get stretched a bit, it works fine. I like my suit mainly because I swim in 60 degree water. I have an Xterra. They have great deals all the time. Let me know and I will send you the email. |
