Welcome Paul! So, a Rugby player: the fun way to give blood, I hear!

Dana, congrats on signing up for your tri. I am itching to do this, but first I have to be certain I can get off of work for the day I have in mind. I should know tomorrow or Monday. And 600 yards after two lessons is impressive!
My Updates:
I think I found my bike. It's not a tri bike - I need something significantly less expensive and more versatile.
LINK I think this, with aerobars, will be work for my tri needs and still be suitable for my other cycling interests. The LBS that sells them here has a reputation for good fitters and good mechanics.
It has been a good training week so far - a bit of everything and a lot of good workouts. I've had two chances so far
(and one more on Saturday
) to practice the new swim techniques I learned from my teacher on Monday. Still needs a lot of refinement, but it's no longer feeling completely alien like it did at first. I am working on adding to my run - went a bit longer one day and a bit faster another.
Don't think I'm going to be able to make Anne's 4 cycling/week challenge this week - just the two spin classes. But a work friend has offered to donate a bike trainer to me, so as soon as I get my bike I'll be able to do some extra spin time at home.
I still don't have a systematic approach to training. I have a very irregular work schedule, so I kind of have to fit things in where I can. There is a great spin class led by a tri coach on Wednesdays and Fridays at the Y, so I try make those whenever I can. On days when I work a 12 hour shift, it's hard for me to do anything other than a 30 minute treadmill run. Since I'm very new to swimming, trying to learn proper technique - and since I'm enjoying it so much - I work in pool time whenever I can. And I try to get a bit of strength training in once or twice a week.
It's not much of a "plan" I guess. I just try to mix it up and do what I can when I can. If anyone has suggestions about how to balance the different disciplines, or best incorporate different kinds of challenges, I'd be glad to hear them.
eurasn1 - 2011-01-20 12:50 PM Unfortunately stomach flu hit last night. No swim as planned. Will rest a few days and continue with the training. Hope everyone is having a good day.
Yikes! Hope you are feeling better soon!
