Unfortunately stomach flu hit last night.  No swim as planned.  Will rest a few days and continue with the training.  Hope everyone is having a good day.

Uh oh. Take care, lots of fluids. Don't try and push through it, take the time off to rest.

Welcome Paul! So, a Rugby player: the fun way to give blood, I hear! Wink

Dana, congrats on signing up for your tri. I am itching to do this, but first I have to be certain I can get off of work for the day I have in mind. I should know tomorrow or Monday. And 600 yards after two lessons is impressive!

My Updates:

I think I found my bike. It's not a tri bike - I need something significantly less expensive and more versatile. LINK I think this, with aerobars, will be work for my tri needs and still be suitable for my other cycling interests. The LBS that sells them here has a reputation for good fitters and good mechanics.

It has been a good training week so far - a bit of everything and a lot of good workouts. I've had two chances so far (and one more on Saturday) to practice the new swim techniques I learned from my teacher on Monday. Still needs a lot of refinement, but it's no longer feeling completely alien like it did at first. I am working on adding to my run - went a bit longer one day and a bit faster another.

Don't think I'm going to be able to make Anne's 4 cycling/week challenge this week - just the two spin classes. But a work friend has offered to donate a bike trainer to me, so as soon as I get my bike I'll be able to do some extra spin time at home.

I still don't have a systematic approach to training. I have a very irregular work schedule, so I kind of have to fit things in where I can. There is a great spin class led by a tri coach on Wednesdays and Fridays at the Y, so I try make those whenever I can. On days when I work a 12 hour shift, it's hard for me to do anything other than a 30 minute treadmill run. Since I'm very new to swimming, trying to learn proper technique - and since I'm enjoying it so much - I work in pool time whenever I can. And I try to get a bit of strength training in once or twice a week.

It's not much of a "plan" I guess. I just try to mix it up and do what I can when I can. If anyone has suggestions about how to balance the different disciplines, or best incorporate different kinds of challenges, I'd be glad to hear them.

Yikes! Hope you are feeling better soon!

imsmiley88 - 2011-01-20 11:39 AMMy first tri (the one I just signed up for May 7th) is an outdoor lake swim. That part is pretty scary!
In my opinion that means you should definitely practice swimming in open water before the Tri. Make sure you have a buddy with you when you do. I didn't find ows that big a deal but if I had never done one it would be challenging to adjust in a race. Practice it and you'll be fine.

There are benefits to only working 1 day a week. Yes, I'm swamped today, but that gives me a very good reason to skip a very boring and useless meeting.

Good morning, all!  I'm all for skipping useless & boring meetings, so go forth with pleasure and enjoy your workout, Anne!  I'm going to run for the first time this week today, and lift afterward.  Should be a fun workout...

Hope everyone is well & healthy!

My daughter plays basketball at a local community center. They have practice on Friday nights from 7-8. There is a fitness center there, and I was looking into possibly spending my time during her practice in the fitness center. They fitness center closes at 6 on Friday nights. What a bummer.

nada today for a workout though I was doing great on calorie intake till evening when I ate a bag of chips followed by Pei Weis Sweet and Sour. I ordered it with extra chicken fully intendingto split it into two meals as I have done before the when I got home I ate it all except for some of the rice @@ Ugg evenings are my downfall lately I eat sparingly all day as I am busy and not really hungry, come evening I pig out! If I get stuck staying up late it is even worse. I know I need to eat more during the day spread out more evenly just easier said than done even with me at home and access to food! Yikes I am in worse shape than ever LOL Well as they say tomorrow is another day Just listing all the calories is helping me see what is going on and bring the eating under control.

I have done an absolutely sucktastic job at working out lately. I wasn't allowed to do any cardio for 2 months, but my cardiologist recently cleared me for light cardio, but I've done nothing. I have to admit though I'm honestly a little nervous about starting again.

Someone give me a workout or a goal for the week! Please!!!

Why are you nervous? I suggest you start with a single, fairly easy commitment. Here's mine, I'm going to get a workout in both weekend days. I challenge you to do the same! 25 minutes minimum. Have to record in your BT log. Ready? Go!

I'm nervous because I've been having irregular heart arrhythmia's. I've passed out once, come close to passing out a few times, and frequently have the arrhythmia's that just wear me out. My cardiologist cleared me for light cardio but suggested running on a treadmill, or with a friend, in case I have problems, same with biking, on the trainer, or with a friend in case I have problems. He told me I could swim if I wanted to, but asked me if I really wanted to pass out in a pool.

My birthday is Tuesday, training will definitely start again then. I'll be 38, I want a rock hard beach body by the time I'm 40.

I like that idea. I also want to get a graphic done this week that people can put in their logs if they like. I have one their now from my last mentor group. It links everyone's name to their log, makes it easier to checking and leave inspires. Which, I will start leaving inspires for everyone SOON!

Big basketball game this morning. My daughter's team won 60-12. It was 32-8 at halftime. My daughter only scored 2 pts, but she took several shots. The time she did score she got a rebound and took the ball down the court and scored. WOOHOO!!!

My DD's 18th birthday is on Tues

So does chasing a 7 year old from one end of the mall and back count as a workout? he took off ahead skipping to go to Build A Bear but he took off in the wrong direction we cover the mall and back before arriving at the right place. That with the 6 other places I went and I am exhausted!

I like this challenge! I did 1 hour on my bike today for a total of 12.3 miles. That's my longest bike ride to date! I also did some core & upper ST. I am working on 2 challenges: a 3 minute plank (I'm able to do 90 seconds right now) and 20 'real' pushups (tried them for the first time today and could do 12!).

Tomorrow's goal is my weekly long run - either 6.2 or 7 miles. I have a 10K next weekend!

How did everyone else do today?

Took the bike out and rode 10.53 miles in 51 mins.  Per my training guide, suppose to ride 45 mins. but lost track of time on the ride out.  Feel pretty good.  Hope everyone is having a good weekend.
