Hey Manatees... I don't know what my problem is the last couple days.  I was having some great workouts on friday and over the weekend.  My swim, bike and run all felt strong. I even ran up hills that I usually walk!  Then yesterday I was back to being a pool-brick. Today I started out on a run and felt sluggish from the start.  Then about a mile and a half in the dog decided to take off with some coyotes.  She usually runs off leash out in the desert and does a great job of coming back when I call her. Not today.  I yelled and yelled for her as I had visions of carrying her back to the house, torn to shreds.  She eventually came back,  unscathed.  After the sluggy start and the dog scare I was done so we headed home and only got a 3 mile run. Cry She may be grounded from running for a while, or at least relegated to running on leash...

I try to keep in mind at times like this that it is about the journey. And the journey is long. Some days are better then others, but even the bad ones are better then the couch ones. Keep your chin up and keep smiling, you are doing AWESOME!

I started running again yesterday!!! Yaaaaaay! Also, we ran at the beach and then went paddle boarding afterwards.  My friend (/running buddy) was so sweet. Since we were going to run and paddle I wasn't going to have a chance to eat dinner so she picked me up with a nice little lunch/dinner packed for me saying, "I knew you would be hungry." Of course she probably only did it for her own safety because when I am hungry, someone will feel the wrath.

Thank you, is that part of the calendar??????? Where is the baby seal?

Ha! No way, the sky is far to grey. No baby seal this time either. I even paddled out to this buoy where they normally hang out and they weren't there. Sad face.

I did get to surf some of the cargo ship waves though. That's about as good as surfing gets in Seattle

Funny you should say that.  As I was running back home I was contemplating other sports that would be less time intensive and maybe less emotional.  I considered badmitton, bowling, and couch sitting...

That is stone cold AWESOMENESS! My wife bought me surfing lessons at Walt Disney World one year for my B-Day. I sucked, but it was a blast. I need practice!

Nix on the badminton. I was nationally ranked in the U.S. and ... the only way I can put it is that it takes the strength and flexibility of gymnastics, the speed and technical skill of table tennis, and the endurance of triathlon put together.

The folks at the world level (and I played with and trained under them here for a summer at the national centre in Indonesia, since it's our national sport) are putting in 40-60 hour training weeks. Not including lunch breaks.

Ooooooh scccnnnaaap, you got told!

Yeah, I imagine that to be the same of bowling as well. Really, any seemingly 'easy' sport played at an Olympic level.

Allrighty then... couch it is!!!!!!!!

Actually I can bowl. I'm not half bad. But it doesn't frustrate me when I don't do well. Maybe because it was always more of a social sport for me.

I used to be an unbelievably terrible bowler. As in, I think I bowled a 13 once. Yeah.

But seriously after playing a ton of WII bowling I got a lot better. By no stretch am I good, or even decent but I can actually do it publicly now.

Can't bowl for crap either. I dated a professional bowler, does that count? It's pretty trippy ... he makes jewelry from discarded bowling balls and it's actually very beautiful stuff.

Badminton ain't big in the U.S. (queen of obvious), so it's unlikely anyone there would have ever seen anything of it other than (for example) what the Nerf football backyard game is to pro pigskin.

Pics below are pretty typical stuff in a badminton game in order to return or send a shuttlecock traveling between 150-200 mph.

Bowling = coed softball for me. Beer drinking and very little more. Of course, that may explain my ability level

The worst part is I looked back at the pics and those guys are really working! And what do I get from the whole thing? "Shuttlecock". I'm just wrong...

We played badminton for a few weeks in H.S. PE class.  It was actually kind of run.  My friend was on our HS Badminton team so during PE he gave me some pointers etc.  I was still MOP but being 6'2" tall I had my moments.  Fast paced high speed stuff!
