Quaker Breakfast Cookie: 180 Cal, Fat 6g, Sat Fat 2g, Na 190mg, Carb 31g, Fiber 5g, Protein 3g

But what's in it that's HEALTHY! If you read the ingredients list you might just think twice. ;-)

I try to teach people that the ingredients list is more important than the calories/fats list.

Thanks, for all the info. Its a huge help. I am kinda clueless when it comes to nutrition. Maybe that comes from my dislike of biological sciences and anything remotely related. I'll have to try some of your suggestion next week.

Subject: getting back in the groove

Well, I am slowly getting back into the groove after the accident. Unfortunately I caught a bad cold that came on friday. Got a 1.5 hour mountain bike ride in on saturday morning and then promptly crashed out for a rest. Sunday it was on the elliptical for 3 miles the sweating in the sauna for a bit. I feel better this morning but still stuffy. The body feels great seeing I was hit a week ago, so once I beet this cold, I should be "back in the grove".

Tuesday already! February already!! Time flies.

How's everyone doing?

I'm ramping up the volume and recovering well. My eating has settled into a good pattern, finally. And, I'm looking forward to the Hypothermic Half marathon on Sunday (forecast is calling for snow and -20C, but whatever, it'll be fun).

Check-in time!

Hi All,

Doing good. I have a cold that is on the decline. Body is feeling good after the accident. Good news is that I have put a deposit on a new commuter bike and should be able to pick it up Saturday. Did a good off road ride Saturday morning and then a round on an elliptical trainer Sunday. Monday was a day off. Today it's to the gym for another round on the elliptical and then yoga. If this week goes well I will hit the planned training schedule again on Monday. I have just been taking it easy, letting my body recover.

I'm doing very well. Met all my training goals last week, managed to put a very satisfying check beside everything. My nutrition is good (as it should be - I'm the example!) and my stress levels are tolerable. No aches or pains to report, other than some mild muscle soreness from a good strength workout on Sunday. School is keeping me extremely busy so I'm starting to get a bit anxious about finding all the time in the day that I need to get stuff done, but I'm talking myself through it. ;-)

Jenn - how did your week go? Make any changes with your nutrition, try to eat better? I've been wondering how you've done.

SpiritFire - 2008-02-08 3:39 PM Jenn - how did your week go? Make any changes with your nutrition, try to eat better? I've been wondering how you've done. tr

Well, I started making a protein smoothie for breakfast and bringing it with me (Vanilla yogurt, mango (frozen), and protein powder, with a little water for better consistancy). So that's helped definitely. Then I'll try and bring some fruit for a mid morning snack. For lunch I started off the week bringing a wrap (spinach, chicken, peppers, & a little feta and olive oil dressing) from home, but it just didn't keep very well in my lunch box so I switched over to chips & salsa, and then some veggies. I like that, It keeps well, and is easy to put together and keep in the lunch box. Not sure how nutritious it is though. I've heard salsa is good for you, but not too sure on the tortilla chips. I'm still working on trying to find the right afternoon snack to give me that last push of classes & studing before dinner. I've tried different things from bad to good, but can't seem to find anything satisfying. I'm thinking of making my own concotion of cherrios, mixed nuts, dried fruit once I go grocery shopping. We'll see how that goes.

Thanks - usually people yelling at me does help - but doesn't seem to be the case this week.
This is what I'm talking about in my Long Term Goals ... the mental toughness I feel I don't have but should. Or perhaps I should change that to read "be less lazy" ...
I have a new course that starts on Sunday, and I am technically supposed to be done the course I'm working on now before this next one starts - but I'm not even close because I'm really struggling with the content. Hence the stress.
I'm going easy on myself though and not beating myself up too badly - knowing that once I go back to work this weekend I'll start making all my work-outs at that point ... a gym one floor down, and an hour lunch with nothing else to do - no excuses!

Subject: Life is GOOD!

Well, life is good. The running is coming back and swimming I had no pain from the shoulder i fell on during the accident.

This past Saturday, after our work out my wife and I went into Salem for the "Chocolate and Ice Sculpture Festival". It was nice to get out on a winter night to walk around the old city, sample some chocolate and look at the sculptures. These are the times when life just seems to hold a pleasant little something that slows us down to enjoy each other. I couldn't have asked for a better evening.

I hope everyone else is doing good.

* Motivation is a tough thing. One has to feel like hitting the gym. You have to feel; that is an emotion hindering you. I try to remove the emotion ( i feel....) from the situation and just know that if I want to accomplish my goal then I just have to get out and move. It may be a bit robotic and cold, but it seems to help. Work is hard, scheduling our time for everything going on in our lives is overwhelming sometimes. But Stevie Nicks sang it best "Think of the situation not the torment". the situation is you want to accomplish your goals, the torment is your emotions.*

*All this may be a bunch of hogwash..........wink wink

TR, like everyone else said. When life gets busy, that's just the way it is and we gotta roll with the punches.

The 'fifteen-minute rule' helps me when I absolutely don't want to go to for a workout but know that I 'should'. Basically, I get myself to the gym or dressed for a run and go out for at least 10 minutes. If by that time, I'm still too stressed or just not feeling it, I give myself permission to stop and go home and do something else. I have actually gotten out of the pool after 15 minutes and left the gym after one set of exercises. But on the other hand, I've also had some of my best workout on days when I didn't think that I had the energy to even start.

Like the Bop said, mental discipline and time management all plays into becoming a successful triathlete even if it is applied to 'life'.

Hey Jenn, my favourite snacks that get me through are high protein ones, cottage cheese & some cereal (all-bran, Go Lean) or an egg and some kind of grain (rice cake, ww bread). I guess that stuff sounds kind of boring and they do require a cooler or fridge which could be inconvenient. Otherwise, I go for a protein bar - I'm partial to Nature's Path Optimum Rebound bars but they are kinda pricey.

Hey all, I'm doing well too. Lots of shovelling to do yesterday, but it is a good workout! I'm getting myself on plan despite some bumps along the way and feeling good.

So any new goals for the rest of February?

I need to get myself lifting. It's the first to drop when things get busy.

What about the rest of all you all?

Holy Crap BOPPER! What a race! Glad you didn't injure yourself on the falls! The weather sounded crappy also! Where in Canada are you? Also, you said you were in the 40-44 cat. Damn, does that mean I'm the oldest in the training group?

This weekend here in New England was great! Temps were in the mid thirtys and the roads were dry so I was able to get in a couple great road rides and one offroad rides. Bobbi ( my better half ) was sick this weekend so I stayed home with her instead of going to the gym. Today was a ride from Peabody (where we live) into Lynn MA, then to the coast at Nahunt. Followed the coast up into Marblehead and Salem. Yep I know the town names dont give you much, but if you google earth it, you'll see where I ride.

I hope everyone is doing good.

Peace Out

J
