tritia2008 - 2011-05-16 11:31 PM Anybody else not sleeping? I am missing the harder workouts since I sleep really well afterwards. Really I am missing my regular routine altogether! I am about ready to just get this thing going!

There's going to be Vaseline and such at the transitions and/or aid stations, right? At least on the run? Trying to figure out how much extra I should pack in my T & SN bags. Hummm...

Swimming relaxes me before sleeping, tonight I'm going for my last pool workout before the race. Maybe I'll jump in the water on Friday for about 10 or 15 minutes as well.

Anybody having weird dreams this week?

Packing tonight.  Think I have everything.

Woke up with a bad headache this morning.  Feels like dehydration.  I have been OK with drinking but last night I had a sweatfest trainer ride and right after got a call from the neighbors inviting us for dinner.  We went over and had steak, which I normally do not eat.  It was a tad overcooked so I had to use a lot of steak sauce which is loaded with sodium.

So I think I got a bit behind on my hydration and woke up with the headache.  Feeling beter now but will pound the water today!

Back to back calls today starting at 9 and going till 5.  Hoping for a cancallation somewhere.  Tuesdays are always my worst day.

Weatehr is still looking good!

Its weird staying up until 10 PM at night and not passing out as soon as my head hits the pillow.

I've got a question about transition, having never done this before.  Do they allow for a traditional transition at your bike space or do you hand your bike to a volunteer and grab your run bag?  I'm using Infinit for my nutrition (bike and run).  I can fill up my bike Infinit on Sat morning, but I don't know what to do about my run Infinit?  Should I just put my hand-held bottle with Infinit in my run bag Friday and be done with it?

I can not stomach hot infinit so I would just have the powder in the hand held and fill up at the first aide station.

You will have nothing around your bike and when you return it to a volunteer and go get your run bag.  I did read last night you must put your bike shoes in your run bag.  I hate unclipping after a long ride, but I guess I will need to this one time.

I just wanted to say good luck to all of you. I've been following this thread for the last month or so after deciding that I'll do this race next year. It's amazing how much information each of you has shared, how helpful you have been with each other and how motivating reading your posts each day has been.

Good luck!

That's new. That's never been the case in other Ironman's that I've done. I know us age groupers can't pre-attach our shoes to pedals (only pro's) but it's never been an issue with leaving them on after the race.

This is from the athlete guide.  Maybe I misunderstand the following statement

7. Shoes must be placed inside the athlete’s bike-to-run gear bag in transition and may NOT be attached to

the pedals. Only professional athletes may attach shoes to the pedals. Shoes and shirt must be worn at all

times.

FYI - From Ironman's Facebook page:

"Be one of the first 500 athletes to check in early at the Memorial Hermann Ironman Texas and receive the new Orion goggles courtesy of TYR!"

I can't, but didn't want others to miss out on the opportunity.

not an ironman (still wtc)  but wasn't this the case at lone star last year.  the guide said something about shoes clipped in when returning to transition but then it was changed at the athletes meeting to allow it.   i think the same thing went down at a few other recent 70.3's.  dunno.

NO MORE SELF-INFLICTED INJURIES PEOPLE

Wear shoes everywhere.  Watch where you are stepping.  Stay away from people who are coughing and sneezing.  I recommend wrapping yourself in bubble wrap may be a good idea

Honestly I think that may be a typo, as in they have to be in the swim-to-bike bag. As logella said, it has always been reiterated that shoes must not be on the bike in T1, but they have been allowed on the bike in T2. This will just be a good question to ask at the athlete's meeting. Its possible they are now enforcing on the other side as well, but with so many other typos in the athlete guide, I'm not 100% sold on this one yet.

You should have access to your transitoin bags on race morning. At my first 3 ironmans, this was not a problem at all. At IMFL 09, the guide said you would not have access but they changed that at the athlete's meeting - I guess realizing it was asking a bit much of us, especially for the reasons you just mentioned.

I plan to freeze my flask of infinit the night before and put it in my T2 bag Saturday morning, inside a padded envelope with an ice pack.

I will make sure I find out Thursday night though if we will have access. It will change things a bit if we don't have access...but like I said, I think its a bit assinine to not let us have access on race morning.

Even though your bags are in transition since Friday you WILL have access to them on Saturday morning. That's no guarantee that the bottle won't be hot though. If I were you, I'd have someone waiting a mile into the run with a fresh bottle.

I'm sending an email out to some family/friends with info on how to track me on race day...only I don't see much info on that yet. Will there be a link to it on ironmanlive.com that's fairly obvious, or do I send people to the Ironman Texas website?

I'm pretty sure that's a rule violation...just sayin'.

Check out this lovely billboard (there are actually 3 of them I've seen).
