I am officially out for the HM next weekend. My feet have just been giving me too many problems on anything past 4 miles or so. I could do it cardio-wise no problem, but it'd be just too painful on the feet. Pretty bummed, you guys. I need to get this figured out...want to do a HIM in the spring.

Could it be your shoes? What kind of foot problems are you having?

Very nice improvement in one year. You should do great in the HM.

I believe the issues are plantar fascitis, still. It may be related to very tight calves. I can do 2 miles without an issue at almost anytime, but once I cross about the 3 or 4 mile mark, I start to get an increasing amount of pain.

I am probably on the verge of needing new shoes, and I will try something slightly different, but I have had issues for quite some time, through many different pairs of shoes. I've taken lots of different recommendations from shoe stores as well as the guy who made my custom orthotics.

Day 689, 13.3 miles in the half marathon today. I ran it in 1:42:44 which is not my fastest but considering I just ran back to back marathons last weekend and another one two weeks before that I am pleased with the results. My legs did not loosen up until mile 4-5 and then I was finally able to hit my half marathon pace and then the hills started. I did finish 16th overall and 4th in my 50-59 year old age group.

Nice speed!

First need to let the foot heal up. Then you should look at your form and your shoes. Go to a running store and have your gait analyzed, have them recommend something for you, and see how that goes.

Justin86 nice improvement on the race. I'm in my 3rd year of running consistently and seeing nice gains. I think maybe Higdon, in one of his books said that you can look at probably 7 years of improvement from wherever you start, so I hope that is the case!!!

#359- 7 mi. Was "mostly" recovery. I got up to marathon pace for the last 2 miles. I just feel like I have to get my legs used to that pace, and also I need some confidence.

Doing the Tyranena Beer Run.  Looking forward to it.  Looks like there is going to be quite a few BTers there.

I sure hope so!  I'd really like to get into the low 7min upper 6's.  I still have like 15lbs I'd like to loose yet.  Might be tough that would get me down to about ~9-12% body fat.  That should help with some more speed.

I enjoyed the second run yesterday, but not nearly as much as the dog did. I know it's no great shakes to you long distance folks, but nine miles over three runs in two days probably makes some kind of record for me. Looking forward to the short run I earned myself for tomorrow.

#360- 15 mi.

About a mile or two into the run I saw my UPS guy and KNEW he had my new shoes. Is it odd that I chased him home just to change shoes and finish the run in my new ones??

Otherwise, it was a nice warm fall day. I was distracted my the fall scenery for most of the run and was pretty zoned out for at least 90 % of it. Good run though.

I have been running in the early A.M this week.  I have been enjoying it a lot.  But my pace is a good 40sec/mi slower, a little disheartening.

I just feel the need to point out that that is an average of over 11 miles per day this year. Nice!!

#363- 22.22 mi

For some reason all 2s appealed to me today. Was probably amongst the top 3 training days of the year for me. First was nervous about the calf. About 5 miles I went off road and hit some semi technical trails for about 12 miles or so which actually really loosened up the calf, must have broken up whatever knot was in there. Lots of ups and down, no real walking sections save some slippery leaf covered downhills. The leaves covering the roots and divots were fun.

I only fell once, and am super proud of that. Got a nice "badge of honor" on the palm of my hand, and bled for about 5 miles or so. Cruised home at a solid pace, and legs felt good.

Good to hear the calf is feeling better and nice run. I did not realize my daily average was that high, never really thought about it. Your taper will start soon huh and only two more days until the one year mark.

Day695, 8.3 mile run. I am transitioning into a zero drop shoe right now and today was the 4th day in row in them. I went with some Altra brand because of the cushioning they have but I will end up in a more minimalist shoe when the calves and everything are accustomed to the zero drop. Probably after my next 100 miler in February. It is called Sky dive ultra and you jump out of a plane then get out of your jump gear and run 100 miles. They have 50k and 50 mile option too. It is on the 1st of February in Florida.

In case anyone is interested in joining me : )
