It wasn't easy and I certainly haven't been very productive since getting back here. I forgot to do a shameless plug! I was outside Lulumon taking a picture of my name when one of the girls came out and took one of me by my name. We were chatting and she told me of a few things to pass on: Wednesday night: free light stretching class from 6 - 6:30. Open to all with refreshments afterward Saturday: Events and food all day for spectators. Tell your families! Good for the next year: Instructor discount (15%) off all apparel for IMTX competitors. |

Hopefully they turn off the sprinklers. It was saturated and sloppy when I was there last week. Everyone running over it in bike cleats will make it a muddy mess. |

BUT, it's already all wet, so there is some worry about how wet it might be by Saturday. |

Regular 240 Cypress, TX | Subject: RE: Ironman Texas dodgersmom - 2011-05-17 12:30 PM So, is it normal that my legs feel more tired this week than they did at the height of my training? Someone PLEASE tell me it is normal! I am not sure if this is normal or not, but I am with you on it. My legs feel tired, and I haven't even run, at least you have. Quads ache a little??? Not sure why though. Mabe they are re-building... at least that's what I hope it is. They ache goes away after a ride though. |

I did read last night you must put your bike shoes in your run bag. I hate unclipping after a long ride, but I guess I will need to this one time. That's new. That's never been the case in other Ironman's that I've done. I know us age groupers can't pre-attach our shoes to pedals (only pro's) but it's never been an issue with leaving them on after the race.
This is from the athlete guide. Maybe I misunderstand the following statement 7. Shoes must be placed inside the athlete’s bike-to-run gear bag in transition and may NOT be attached to the pedals. Only professional athletes may attach shoes to the pedals. Shoes and shirt must be worn at all times.
Just have to be careful not to roll your ankle while "running with the bike shoes". I always leave them on the bike, slip in and slip out. I tried once to run in them, DAMN I don't see how it is done. It was very unstable, I ended up just walking the bike. |

Master 2238 Dallas | Subject: RE: Ironman Texas Ok, someone needs to tell me this. Aparently, the world will end at 6PM on the 21st; is that EST, CST, MST or Pacific time?? If it's Central time I don't think I'll make it, Mountain time might work if it's not too hot and PST would be a blessing, almost a sure deal. Now, should I put more gu's and socks in my special needs bag for doomsday? A list of my good deeds? A written apology for all my bad actions? Please help me out... |

You can probably look forward to most of the pathways being carpeted. It's not your normal local race; It's an IRONMAN!

Regular 240 Cypress, TX | Subject: RE: Ironman Texas I wonder if the immune system takes a hit during taper. I know during peek training we are all taxing or system pretty heavy. Maybe all the rebuilding going on is pulling all the resources? I am just saying since I came back from a 1 hr "walk". I needed to get some blood pumping through the legs; felt really good but didn't run. Now my allergies are on fire. WTF? Never had it hit this bad. It will pass by tonight, but just made me wonder. Seems like our immune systems are getting slammed with training, and then getting slammed with rebuilding. Never catch a break. OH well, bump up the vitamin C intake.

similar stuff going on here - I picked up serveral packs of emergen-c on my lunch break. Gets me more water + more electrolytes + C. I figure it can't hurt (I HOPE!). |
