My live-in girlfriend of 3 years moved out and left me today, but man did I pound out the training miles. I just kept going and going to keep it off my mind. The next person that asks how to get faster on the bike gets the standard answer....convince your girlfriend to leave you. lol

Sorry to hear...I know it sucks.

However on a lighter note... Another thing you'll soon find is that you'll have all this extra money.  Can you say, "New Tri Bike!"

Keeping with the 'sending good vibes' context, I had a friend who had a relationship come to an end and it was PR-city for him for like the next year.  I kept trying to hook him up with people so I could be competitive with him again .

Sorry about the break-up, those are never fun.  But they CAN do wonders for other parts of your life!  In regards to my divorce, my tagline is: it's amazing what losing 160 lbs. of a$$hole can do for your figure.

Hang in there.

Can you count both a great ride and a break-up as a brick??

Change is good.

Mourn as long as you feel necessary, then get back on the horse.

Going through the same thing now as well.

Sure is nice having all this free time to train though, eh?

Yep, I say pretty much the same thing:

Almost anyone who knew me a year ago: "Wow, you look great!"

Me: "Thanks, I just lost 250 pounds - 50 off me and left 200 at the door!"

And damn, I do look great!

Another thing that gave me awesome training runs for about a week was an intervention with my best friend when she decided alcohol was not a drug, and blacking out was fun... She's clean & sober, and I pounded some seriously crazy miles!

Good luck getting in amazing shape and getting through the breakup.

Trolling for tri-babes ALREADY?!  I was half-expecting your last line to be, "so ladies... I'm available."  Shameless!

I usually pound a good workout after a lame date/night.

If you see that girl again just say "thank you" with a big smile on your face, and walk off knowing how much more fit and stronger you are. Then go to a triathlon and pick up a tri-girl.

Sorry to hear it, but you know from all these funny been-there-done-that replies that it's going to be great for your training.

I can't even think about relationship issues when I'm trying to remember bi-lateral breathing while swimming!

I decided to get into triathlons as a way to get over a break-up. Well, the heartache faded several months before the tri arrived, but it was too late - already signed up! In the meantime, I met a nice guy who used to race bicycles, and we had a lot to talk about since I was just getting into it, and 2 years later, we are still an item! Funny how things work out...
