I love Rothko. This didn't strike me as Rothko because his colors aren't so bold and contrasting, but I guess I can see it.

And for the people who think its stupid, every news outlet has commented on it! When they talk about his acceptance speech, they bring up the dress!

Some of his colors are fairly bold (he has some yellows and even some reds that are quite striking), but I agree that usually the contrast isn't so sharp. It's a bit of a stretch, I know, it's just the first thing I thought of when I saw the dress.
