I work for a small private firm and have a high deductible plan that is paid for by my employer fully.  They also offer an HSA which they fill up every year with my out of pocket maximum.

I consider it very good coverage.

For wife and me, the health insurance is $215/month and it includes prescription drug and vision.  The dental is $19/month additional.   No deductible.  Office visits require $10 co-pay.  Hospitalization is covered 100%.  Prescription drug coverage varies with the drug but is not much. Judging from this thread, it is very good insurance.

As mentioned by another Canadian to compare the two systems is difficult but regarding your question about taxes, yes, I'm sure we pay more. We even see that at the gas pump where we here in Vancouver are paying $1.25 l (approx $4.75 a US gallon).
No there is no stipulation on what care and even what doctor you go to.
As far as being satisfied, yes, very satisfied. Again the other Canadian mentioned long waits but here each province is given health care payments from Ottawa so each province is responsible for how they provide. Some provinces are not very good but others are fine. Yes, there will always be the story of the person with the broken arm waiting in emerg for 5 hours but when you get the details you find it wasn't because of lack of care but that it was just very busy and the broken arm importance was down the list from heart attacks or traffic accidents. I am also amazed when I hear the word deductible mentioned with health care. Only time I hear that word is with my car and house insurance. The only people who will suffer if the US implements a system will be the insurance companies.

Wow I feel blessed after reading this, I have never complained about my coverage but felt that I had the norm coverage. I work for a small(ish) company <90 people spread out across the world. I pay nothing for myself, $15 dollar co-pay, zero deduct, that includes dental and vision. To add the Fam on (1 wife, 3 kids) my company pay 50% so I pay under a $100 for same a coverage no deduct. All three of my kids cost me $15 to be born and one was emergency pro lapse cord, neo natal care, helicopter, etc etc.. Multiple emergency Knee, Ankle, Collar Bone, Spleen, Kidney Removal surgery's all $15. By no means bragging, I'm just shocked..!! My ignorance of those around me and proves to me that we really do have a health care problem in the states, I truly thought it was just politics for the poor.. man I feel dumb..

nearly exactly like ours.  my employer (very large, county gov't; i work at a county hospital) gives us X$ (around $100/person) to spend on health insurance each month.  employee picks a plan, out of about 8 options, that we feel suits our needs best.  anything over X$ (can't remember what it is) we pay out of pocket.  anything under X$, we get back.  we chose a blue shield HMO-ish plan.  we have a "network" provider and need referrals to most subspecialists, however we can go out of network or self-refer, but out of pocket cost goes up quickly if we go that route.

my husband and i don't pay any monthly premiums -- i.e. our insurance plan is about equal to what the employer gives, i think about $250/mo, includes prescription drug coverage ($5/copay generic, $15/copay brand) and basic preventative vision.  we pay $18/month extra for dental.  no deductible. 100% hospitalization coverage.  100% mental health coverage.  100% ob/gyn/family planning coverage. $50 copay for ER.  $50 copay for ambulance.

we're fortunate; it's very good insurance.

I run a small business with one partner. We each are married with 3 kids. Our total insurance bill is about $4,400 per month. We have a middle of the road coverage, with no dental.

Our's changed drastically this year...this is for me + spouse

Last year:
~$82 every two weeks out for medical, $1000 deductible, $30 co-pay

This year:
~$41 every two weeks out for medical, $6000 deductible, no co-pay but I pay 100% of the bill up to the $6k deductible (we pay whatever the "negotiated" rate is between the insurance co. and provider).

TriRSquared - 2011-02-20 10:49 AM Self employed:

Almost $800 a month for a family of 4.  $1500 individual deductible.  $4000 family.  After which insurance pays 80%.  No copays.  I pay 100% out of pocket iuntil I reach the deductible.

So basically I pay almost $12k a year before insurance even kicks in.

People who have employers who help pay their insurance need to quit complaining (directed at the public at large, not necessarily anyone here)

This sounds like our insurance, but I think our monthly is lower since our deductible is much higher.  Having to pay in full at each Dr. visit certainly encourages me to stay healthy and injury free.

My wife and I are covered under my insurance. I pay 287 per month in premiums (out of my paycheck of course) which covers medical, dental and vision. I believe our annual out of pocket for medical/vision is $2500 or so for the family and after that insurance pays 100%. For our dental I believe it is 2k dollors a year per person on the plan that will be covered (though I am checking on that as it does not sound correct.

My insurance has some of the best coverage I have ever seen. For instance my dental covers things like bite guards for grinding, which my dentist had never seen covered before. My health insurance is equally good.

My insurance is paid fully by my employer (rolled up in total wage package).  $600 family deductible/ $3k max out of pocket yearly 80/20, after that 100% percent coverage.  100% dental coverage up to $1600 then 80/20.  $400 every two years for vision.  Full retirement coverage until both spouse and my death.  Yes union.
