@Gretchen, Very good sign that your back is feeling much improved. And even better that you're taking an extra rest day. Coach Gretchen would approve of Athlete Gretchen's decisions. I'll 2nd Mikes jump on the trainer as a first workout back, but will add do the spin sitting up, don't try and spend a bunch of time on the aero bars with a dodgy back. Yes, obvious I know.

@Robert, Nice work ticking the workouts off. Sorry about the sh1tty swim. If you're looking for replacement goggles I have had great success with zoggs predators. Highly recommend.

@Mike, Got to love car troubles. I'm guessing that as Dad, none of the issues are your fault, but you still get to be the one to rearrange life to fix everything? That doesn't sound at all familiar. Solid treadmill run.

Me, Seems silly as it's only week 2 of my plan but it's a rest week. (of course its actually week 3, but I skipped week 1) So far I've had a day off, 3 40 minute treadmill runs, 1 with 8x30" Z5 intervals, the rest easy. 4 bodyweight sessions and I swam this morning on the way to work. (school holidays, so I get to run away 1/2 an hour early instead of the full morning routine) Just easing back into things in the pool. 750m this time, again with plenty of rest. But every interval was in the 1:55-1:58/100m range so I'm happy the technique is still kind of there. Not quite starting from zero.

Tonight I'll be on the bike, with a couple of runs and a zwift ride over the weekend.

so race week is upon us-. Luckily, I didn't do this race last year (there wasn't one) so the past Nat to beat is 2022-Nat who was not as good as 2023 Nat. I should get her

Goal times (2022 time)

S 340m - 07min22 @2.10/100 (07:52)
T1 1:00 (01:14)
B 9.2km: 20:00 (22:19)- taking the old racer instead of the heavy mountain bike
T2: 1:00 (1:15)
R 6.5km 35:12 @5:25k/m (37:08)- Reading my RR, I took my time last time and averaged 5:43

Yeah, lets go race week. Best of luck for the weekend. We know you're going to smash it.

A third rest day in a row for me...I'm starting to get antsy! My back is feeling better. It no longer hurts when I stand up and I can walk with not much pain. It still hurts when I roll over in bed, which I do by arching my back into a bridge (shoulders and feet on the bed, everything else in the air) and then twisting. Maybe that has something to do with the issue! :D Anyway, I'm glad it is feeling better, but I'm taking another day. Every day I wake up and assess whether it feels better and I have made myself be honest (not like when I my leg was injured in February!). It is a mental challenge, but I know I need to take these days to be race ready. As my wife says...we are eye on the prize at this point. Every choice I make right now has to be that which will increase my chances of arriving at the start line healthy enough to do two ultra distance tris in two weeks (eeps...that just sounds dumb now that I've written it out like that!).

The up side of all of this is that I have been incredibly productive with my summer research program this week and have just about finished the manuscript for an article I've been working on (not continuously!) for two years!! I almost feel like a real academic!

LOL! technically it wasn't Microsoft. It was the tech company that made a lot of news today for breaking things around the world. I'm tired after all that!!

I hadn’t heard about it until I read your post. I’m in my little bubble.
