The swim is a chest high start that takes you out and back in a big -u- turn. Nice wide lanes.

The bike course is deceptive. Climbs in both directions. Not big but long and steady. The course gets a bit clogged so faster riders need to stay on the outside.

The run is okay but there are a couple climbs that are short and one is steep...

Very well run and organized...

I volunteered this race last year and am racing this year.

I did seem that the run is pretty hilly for a 5K, but what comes up must come down.

The bike route should be a nice course as it was my running route for my long distance runs in the years past.  It is moderately hilly, but like Courage said - everything is very gradual.

In terms of training, would think hills would be in order for running and the bike course is an AWESOME place to train.  The road is basically a 4 lane highway with only 2 lanes designated for cars.  On the weekends, it is always filled with cyclists and runners.  The one thing to note is that depending on which side of the road you are on, there are long stretches without shade.

Personally, I can't wait for this years event.  Should be a great time.

This will be my first tri as well. For those with experience of it, would you wear a wetsuit for the swim? I am a slow swimmer so need all the help I can get, but equally don't want to overheat.

Many thanks,

Phil.

Phil- Definitely go with a wetsuit. You can walk into the lake on the side of the chute while the waves are going out to start and get wet. Its a shoulder height start. It goes out and back in a U turn with a sandy run out of the water...

The bike is deceptive as the "hills" are really gradual upgrades that will wear you down. Then a hilly run that weaves in and out.

Great atmosphere and beautiful area. I live about 15 miles down from there...

I live in Highland Falls, literally 5 minutes from the race.  I like to ride the bike stretch of this race as my normal training route.  It is a very safe route even when the rode is open.

If anyone wants to meet up for a practice ride up and down this stretch of road - pm me as I'll be out there pretty much at least once each weekend between now and raceday.
