Subject: 1/2 Ironman training prog. question...
Hi,

I'm about to start the 1/2 Ironman program in the training section of the website. I looked up at all the weeks and it starts very easy on the bike. I'm quite fit on the bike right now and I'm used to do short intervals. I terms of length of bike sessions though, it is about the same. My question : Should I make a step backwards and follow the program or should I keep on doing my (more intense) bike sessions until I find that the sessions in the program are about the same in intensity as the ones I do ? Might it be too much in terms of intensity ?

Thanks a lot for you help !

Christian.

Christian,

If you have a strong bike base already AND you don't have to skip swim and run workouts due to fatigue, then I would keep your current routine.

I wrote this first timers plan assuming that all 3 sports needed work on basic endurance. If you're already ahead, then no reason to step back.

Cheers,
Scott

Christian,

I'm in the same boat, only with the running portion of a 1/2 IM plan I'm following.  I plan on maintaining my current fitness by adding a mile or so to each run, until the schedule catches up with where I am. I'll probably accelerate the long run a bit to since i'd like to get a couple of 15 mile runs in before race day. If I get to the point where it feels like it's to much, then I can always back off.

Ha Ha.....I was gonna suggest that you maintain your bike if it doesn't cause you to be to tired to do the swim and run program.....................But why listen to me when the guy that wrote the plan can give you advise. GOOD LUCK.......
