Is anyone else doing the Rose City Triathlon (Tyler, TX) on September 13th? It's a sprint tri - 650m swim, 14.5 mile bike, and 3.1k run.

From what their website says, it's a pretty good course and a photographers dream.  The entire swim course (point to point OWS) will be easily visible from the shore, the bike is an out 'n back, and the run is a funky out 'n back... 'n kinda out 'n back again.

Anyone else registered or thinking about it?

I'm thinking about doing this race - as are a couple of my buddies.  I haven't signed up yet though.

If you're not sure if you want to register or not, here's a little incentive.  If you do the Rose City Tri, you'll be able to meet my two lovely greyhounds!  My wife will be there with Maya (pictured in my avatar with the Team CSC cap) and Gwen!!Smile

Yes! I am from the ET Triathlete club. The race directors are doing a phenomenal job right now. The swim course will have huge bouys on the swim course similar as seen at the Rivercities triathlon, its a point to point course. The course should be mostly shaded, I do a lot of cycling back there. We will also have the best food at a triathlon hands down. I experienced the food at our last club meeting and....DANG! It was awesome. Everything is as described on the link.

I am a member of the East Texas Triathletes - same as William.  Two weeks ago I rode the bike course...it is a fun course.  I also viewed the run....nice and flat (mostly)...and the swim is VERY spectator friendly.  You can literally have someone running along the shore next to you, as it is a point to point swim close to the shoreline.  William is also correct - Brian, another member, is a GREAT chef and will be doing the cooking.  I may not be racing this one, as I will be assisting where needed, but I will be there for sure.  If anyone is close to Longview, maybe we can do some training together - send me a message and we can work out something.

I haven't registered yet, but my wife and I will both be racing.  I do know that the race director is really putting forth a great effort to put on a quality race.  And I can attest that the stir-fry that will be served after the race is one of the best plates of food I've ever tasted!

Since you called the River Cities bike course "fun," I'd like a bit more detail. Is it all hills, up and down, like most everything here in ETex? Are there any flat parts?

Kahne - I'm pretty sure you have ridden this course, as I was told it is part of the B&B course that the Tyler Cylce club rides often.  It is all rolling hills....very fun.  There are not really any long flat stretches...but there is no "killer hill" either.

I'm certainly glad there is no Killer , though it will be a tough up-and-down course--and watch out for potholes!! Tammy hit one in the last TT and knocked one of the armrests off her TT bars.
