Tuxedo Brothers
70F / 21C
Sunny
Total Time = 2h 53m 22s
Overall Rank = 237/389
Age Group = 40-45
Age Group Rank = 38/49
Pre-race routine:

Woke up early and fixed a peanut butter and honey sandwich...downed two bottles of water.
Event warmup:

Got to site a little later than I was hoping but thought everything was going to be fine. Wasn't planning too much of a warmup but about three quarters of the way to the swim start, I realized I had forgotten my goggles. Warm up turned into a mile or so warm up run in my wetsuit.
Swim
  • 30m 28s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 52s / 100 yards
Comments:

Course was a big advantage for me as my navigation is usually an issue. With the canal being 20 feet wide, I never had to look to see where I was going or if I was off course. Freestyle stroke the entire course. Just felt great. Navigated turns well. Passed a bunch of people.
What would you do differently?:

Just train more in the pool...I should be swimmimg 1:40 to 1:50's all the time.
Transition 1
  • 02m 26s
Comments:

Not a bad transition... alittle dizzy trying to bend over to remove wetsuit.

What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Bike
  • 1h 17m 55s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 19.14 mile/hr
Comments:

Felt great on the first loop. Maintained a nice tempo the entire loop and felt great. Thought everything was going great until I hit the wall about mile 20....lack of good long rides. Took away a good overall bike and later hurt the run.
But I am not complaining... I felt good with this ride
What would you do differently?:

More long rides
Transition 2
  • 01m 36s
Comments:

Need to get this under a minute as before
Run
  • 1h 00m 54s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 09m 49s  min/mile
Comments:

I just had nothing in the legs...which was suprising. I am not sure what happened. I was expecting a 9 minute mile pace and through the first 5 k I was on pace. Then the wheels fell off. The last 5k took 35 minutes.
I had to walk through the waterstations and brief 30 seconds periods a few additional times.
Oh well!!
What would you do differently?:

Needed to maintain 9 minute pace throughout. Maybe started to fast on first 5k...25 minutes.
The additional 6 minutes meant 40 spots overall and a top 50 % finish
Post race
Warm down:

Brief ride to stretch legs and visiting with a few friends.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Any real ability

Event comments:

Another great Tuxedo Brothers event. Fantastic new venue downtown and one I would recommend to new triathletes (the also had a sprint and a duathlon) and the swim was very well done. It allows for excellent navigation and if someone panics they can just stand up.
Bike and run were nice setup.
