I have often wondered many things about my fellow athletes. This is the question that I pose to you: If you were to make a 10 song mix CD to train to for one of your triathlons, what would be on it? Would it be fast, hard rocking music, or soothing music? I have always wanted to know. I have generated my list below from songs that I remember listening to before races and doing well, or songs that would just get me pumped up. They are as follows (of course there would be tweeking before the actual CD):

1. "If I Run" by Semisonic
2. "Run Like Hell" by Pink Floyd
3. "Running with the Devil" by Van Halen
4. "Jet City Woman" by Queensryche
5. "Certain Shade of Green" by Incubus
6. "Renegade" by Styx
7. "Armageddon It" by Def Leppard
8. "Mia" by Chevelle
9. "Weeds" by Life of Agony
10. "Enough" by Gravity Kills

I'm looking forward to seeing what other people would have on their CD. Later and good luck with your training.

Cory,

Great question ;-)

Music totally motivates me when I am working out. It really does make all the difference. On my MP3 player, all of the upbeat songs are on the second half of the song list to make the second half of my run all that much easier. It is unfortunate that you can't listen to your favorite msuic during triathlons...

Anyway, it is tough, but I will try to make a list of songs I would put on the CD if I were to make it tonight (NOTE: for me, this could change daily!)

1. Take On Me (the MXPX version)
Full of energy-puts a spring in your step. My friend Jason and I sing this while we run!
2. Girls Just Wanna Have Fun (Cyndi Lauper)
3. Heaven (Isn't Too Far Away) (Warrant)
4. All on Black (Alkaline Trio)
5. Sell My Old Clothes, I'm Off to Heaven (Saves the Day)
6. Flood (Jars of Clay)
On my high school cross country video.
7. Hair of the Dog (Nazareth)
Our theme song in high school for cross country. We listened to it on the bus before every meet-just as we pulled up to the course.
8. Philosophy (Ben Folds Five)
9. No Sensitivity (Jimmy Eat World)
This is a slow song...but if you put it on while watching people race, I swear your heart will skip a beat during the guitar solo! I listened to it before many a track race in college.
10. Hey Ya (Outkast)
This would make me laugh and think of going out to clubs with my friends and would make me less nervous.

Keep the Rock Coming....

3. "Naturally Wired" by Van Halen
4. "Migra" by Carlos Santana

8. "Gypsy Road" by Cinderella

Man, both of you have some great songs on your mixes. However, I completely forgot about Black Betty. Man, that song rules. I had never heard that song until the movie "Blow" came out, but now it's one of my favs.

Mainly upbeat, faster, keep me motivated stuff:

Rat Patrol - Naked Raygun
Sleep Now In the Fire (LIVE) - Rage Against The Machine
I Wanna Be Sedated - The Ramones
