Subject: Peroneal dislocation About two years ago I had an accident with my horse and sprained my ankle badly. (She ran me down). I saw my PCP a couple of days after and he said to use the RICE method of treatment, and sent me for x-rays to be careful. (no break) I followed the advice and was able to participate in a tri a couple of months later with little to no pain. I did notice however, that the bone on the side of my ankle hurt when I pressed on it, and wearing boots and my running shoes still hurts because it hits that area. The pain has now come back in a serious way, and it runs up the side of my leg (on the outside). There is no swelling. Turning my ankle up and out causes the most intense pain. I don't want to schedule an appt. with an ortho if it's something I can take care of myself with massage, stretching, ect. Should I try the RICE method again, or should I look into finding a doctor to help me out? I'm not sure if it's common to have pain this late after an injury. Thanks for any help. Kim |
