i'm training for my first tri (the honolulu triathlon) in april. at the end of march there is a "mini triathlon" on the island that i'm on. i figure it'll be a good chance to get a day of training in for all the events. here's the weird thing, the order and distances aren't like a typical sprint distance. the race is .5 mile swim followed by a 3 mile run (may be 3.1, not sure) then finally, a 1.5 mile bike. yes, that is a mile and a half. pretty odd, maybe i should just keep running, hahaha. anyone ever seen something like this?

Maybe you could just do the bike route over and over and over and over and over and over and over until you feel you've had a workout.

Is the bike ride up Diamond Head or Koko Head perhaps? That could be some serious mountain riding/climbing. Being in Honolulu I can imagine traffic is a big problem there. :-O

Having come from a bicycle racing background, I can now picture this event ending with a 75 person flat out sprint to the line at speeds approaching 40 mph. I hope they have freeze frame photo timing to pick the winner and log the order of numbers as they flash across the line! ;-)

What seems to be happening across the Tri world is that events like this are set up because they are basically in no way intimidating.  Race directors and lovers of the sport see this as an opportunity to introduce people to the sport, once you get them at an event, they are hooked.  There are a lot of different views to what the distances should be, but for the most part these tri's are to introduce the sport.

Are you sure it isn't a 15 mile bike ride, maybe they typo'd the decimal in the middle. I am thinking that 15 miles would be right on with those swim and run distances. Just a thought. It it is 1.5 mile bike I think it would be fun because you could go all out on that portion.
