I have read about how HR during biking can be 10bps slower than running.

I have a hard time getting my biking HR above 130 on a flat course. My normal running HR tends to be in the mid 140's and into the 150's when I intentionally push harder.

I "feel" like I am pushing harder (legs burning) on the bike at the mid 120's HR than when I am running with a 145 HR.

A little background: Ran marathon in 2001. Have always used jogging as a pref'd method of exercising. Have done very little long distance biking, limited mountain biking a few years ago.

Is it because my legs are still building up the required muscles to be efficient on the bike?

Anyone else have this 'problem'?

Does this post make sense?

I know exactly what you are saying. I noticed the same problem with my swim.... my arms aren't strong enough so they poop out too fast and I don't get my heart rate up.

Do you do strength training for biking muscles? My personal trainer told me the weight training I am doing to my upper body will help me get going faster in the pool.

No, I am not currently doing any strength training. I know it would help, but I am having a hard time allocating enough time to training in the first place.

I did some pretty serious strength training until early December including legwork (mainly squats/lunges/deadlifts) so I don't think my legs are "weak".
