Subject: RE: fifth disease(slapped cheek) and tri training Just in case anyone else has the misfortune of running into an experience like this---my words of advise are "hang in there through the pain and do NOT listen to the doctors as they tell you there may be permanent damage to the joints if you train"....just do what you can and let pain be your guide.
Infectious arthritis is painful, but with good nutrition and continued training on whatever level you can (I did only wts as I did not want to lose the muscle strength while the joints healed and I was not able to do anything else...everyday activities were painful and turning over in bed was excruciating initially )---things will improve!!
I am back in the saddle again after more than a month...somewhat behind in Ironman training, but I am a turtle anyway, so I think I can train smartly and still be out there, though my time won't improve this year. I can't run yet as the knees are still swollen/tender but I can do power-walks and the bike is going well.
So--if anyone has a run-in with this...take heart...it is painful and frustratiing...but don't despair...the symptoms will pass in time
Happy training! |
