Subject: Recovery week...why do I feel blah?
Week 8 of 20 week plan, it's my first recovery week.  My body feels out of whack and like I wouldn't be able to do the distances I've been doing the past few weeks.

Does the mind or the body, or both, just know that it's time to take a break and won't let you do much, or is it that the shorter times/distances just not what my body is used to?

I'm struggling to make it through some of the workouts this week, yet I have to force myself to pull back from training too hard (as if to overcompensate for my slower paces).  I'm trying to treat myself well to take advantage of recovery week, but my body isn't letting me.

listen to your body.  if your logs are correct your last 3 weeks have been the most volume you've done ALL YEAR!!!  You're body is recovering, allow it to do so.  during your next couple recovery weeks (2-3 months from now) I bet you'll bounce back more quickly as your body adapts to the new demands you're placing on it.

also, be careful and if you see that you're body can't handle 3 on and 1 off, switch to 2 on and 1 off...not all athletes can handle 3 on and 1 off.

Whenver I have recovery weeks, I'm always so excited to be able to drop back on the volume a bit. However, each workout never feels as easy as I think it should. It feels like I wouldn't be able to go for any longer period of time! When I start the next week of training, though, I feel really ready to go. Just go easy and let your body recover. You will feel gung-ho again next week!

I ALWAYS feel more blah on my recovery weeks than my big build weeks. A friend once said that it's the body doing all the hard work that week of knitting muscle fibers back together and healing tissue, why expect it to feel good? I take the recovery aspect to heart, getting lots of sleep, eating well and listening to my body, but that week generally is the one where I feel all the aches and pains as my body absorbs the training I put into it. You're not alone!

Some great viewpoints.  Thank you for reassuring me I am not alone, and I need to allow myself to feel a bit "blah" this week.  I do need to relax some sore muscles.

And a big x 2 from me.

My fiance went and saw a naturlist and he mentioned this to her.

When you work out your adrenal glands will produce more adrenaline.  Adrenaline, not only gives your body energy but also can give you a high.  You just do not realize the high so much becuase you are work out a such a high level.  during your recovery weeks your adrenal gland is not producing as much adrenaline as you are not workign our as hard for as long.  The absence of the adrenialine in your system can make you feel down or blah.

Just a though.
