Subject: FR 305 Satellite Tracking
About 2 - 3 weeks ago my FR 305 stopped tracking satellites.  I tried resetting the unit and upgrading the firmware but nothing worked.  It also would not recognize the wheel magnet for speed even if I turned off GPS.  I could only get HR and cadence to work.  I was going to take it back to CostCo and get a new one, but I was hoping that the 310XT would be released on time, which is not going to happen. When yesterday during my run I got something on my hand (um... snot) and quickly flicked it several times to get it off.  The unit came off of the quick release strap and bounced down the street about 10 yards.  When I picked it up it had turned off.  At first  I thought I had completely killed it but,  it turned back on and now it is tracking satellites again.  I still think I will return the unit because this only confirms my suspicion that something had come unsoldered or corroded inside the unit and if it stopped working during my HIM I would be mad.

The moral of the story is if your FR 305 stops tracking satellites and nothing you do can correct the problem.  The fix is the throw the unit down the street...

Hmm… Maybe it was a combination of both.

Garmin has replaced 2 GPSs for us now without problem. They have been relatively quick on the turnaround for snail mail as well.
