Total Time = 3h 00m 17s
Overall Rank = 170/187
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 18/19
Pre-race routine:

None, did not have a lot of time to warm up. Drove from hotel to race (about 30min) and had to wait in a small line for packet pickup. Was very nervous for this race because it was my first at this distance.
Event warmup:

Only got about 5 minutes in the water before the waves started.
Swim
  • 37m 10s
  • 1500 meters
  • 02m 29s / 100 meters
Comments:

The swim was crazy, I was all over the place and wasted both a lot of time and energy back tracking. For the first time I was not having an problems swimming because of endurance, it was all directional.
What would you do differently?:

Need to find a way to swim straight or do a better job sighting.
Transition 1
  • 01m 26s
Comments:

T1 was smooth, it was a long run from the beach and by the time I got to the bike I pretty much had my barrings and had caught my breath. Wetsuit came off fairly easily. For the first time in a while my shoes went on without any major problems.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Bike
  • 1h 18m 11s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 19.07 mile/hr
What would you do differently?:

Not sure what I could have done differently, bike was ok although my pace seemed to slow on the second 12 miles. Felt like I was on the course by myself since I was so behind from the lousy swim I had.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

T2 also went well although my legs were still shaking from the bike. Did not have any problems dismounting of the bike.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. They did not get the splits for T2, the time was added to run.
Run
  • 1h 03m 31s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 10m 14s  min/mile
Comments:

Thought this was going to be a good run when I started. Legs felt pretty good and I was at 8min + for the first mile. I think every mile after that got slower and I felt like I was never going to reach the turnaround. Once I got to the turnaround I was at about a 10min pace and getting very tired. Tried to turn it up a notch the last couple of miles and actually passed some people. Around the 5 mile mark I was in pain and my back was killing me, which has never happened before.
What would you do differently?:

Need more brick workouts, every race my run is not what it should be and I think that is the reason.
Post race
Warm down:

none whatsoever, wife and kids were ready to go.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Need more bricks and open water swim work.

Event comments:

Again, I think there needs to be more there for the spectators during the race and something after so that people want to hang around.
