Total Time = 2h 36m 56s
Overall Rank = 209/700
Age Group = SVet 50
Age Group Rank = 11/50
Pre-race routine:

2.00pm start so leisurely start. Usual Porridge and bacon sandwich.
Drank lots of water the previous day.
Registered at about 11.00am and then had an egg mayo sandwich.
Event warmup:

Nothing really.
Swim
  • 27m 34s
  • 1500 meters
  • 01m 50s / 100 meters
Comments:

Water was quite busy. Racers were set off in three waves of about 200. There was some close contact but not too bad. Did do quite a bit of drafting.
What would you do differently?:

Perhaps use my legs a little more. I hardly kicked with me legs.
Transition 1
  • 01m 26s
Comments:

It was quite a long run before you could mount and it was over dirt so you had to get your shoes on in T1.
Bike
  • 1h 22m 10s
  • 43.5 kms
  • 31.76 km/hr
Comments:

It was a very busy bike race which forced you to do a lot of overtaking and fighting for position. Also I got screamed at by the bike for not looking back before overtaking. Was worried I may have got a DQ!
What would you do differently?:

Push the bike a little harder.
Transition 2
  • 01m 4s
Comments:

Last year I did T2 in 59 secs so a little longer this time.
What would you do differently?:

Get helmet off quicker.
Run
  • 52m 8s
  • 10 kms
  • 05m 13s  min/km
Comments:

Tried my best and did the run 1 second slower than last year! I really need to work on my run times as the run is now my slowest discipline.
Post race
Warm down:

A few stretches

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Running ability.

Event comments:

I did this race last year. I think there were probably 400 then. This year 700 was too many, the bike course was far too busy.

I looked at my heart monitor a few times during the race. Lowest heart rate seemed to be 147 and highest 156! For a 51 year old that seems a little high!
Wind: Little
Course: Reasonably flat. This was the first race on the Felt B16. It felt good. I could have gone faster but I was worried about not having anything left in the tank for the run. Need to adjust tri bars a little.
