Are the Conti GP 4000 black tires with chilli compound the same as the Conti GP s tires?  Seem to be the same, but wanted to make sure.

Yes, I believe they are. I had wondered the same exact thing for a long time...but went ahead and ordered 2 sets of the 4000S. From what I can tell, the only difference is the "S" is all black with the silver lettering on the tire...and the regular 4000 has the gold (yellow) lettering. Both have the chili compound, though.

Thanks.  That is what I thought also.  I had ordered the 4000s from Probikekit.com in the past, but they were out, but had the 4000 in black.

I just tried the 4000s', based on the reviews here and other places. Already blew out the sidewall of one of tires after only 82 miles. Maybe it was just bad luck, but I am finding it hard to buy the same type of tire again.

I have about 6000 miles on my GP4000S and my wife has slightly more on hers... you can't even tell they are worn yet! Not a single flat during that entire time either... these tires made me abandon tubulars, they are that good.
