This evening I experienced several hours of extreme low energy. I ate healthy today and had a good workout this morning. I certainly ate enough. It wasn't until I ate a few Carmel delites (thanks to the Girl Scouts of America) that I regained my will to live.

Was this just a coincidence or have I been creating a sugar imbalance or something when working out so much more/harder than I used to?

I have been noticing these periods of low energy a couple times a week.

yeah...could be a coincidence...i see you did lower body and swam...if your still building endurance in the swim and its not been a breeze, then maybe have an energy drink with u at the pool next to your lane.  when lifting...u mentioned legs...THEN swimming (i did squats, more legs then swim) i usually felt very fatigued witha that workout...doing leg work, especially any type of squat exercies at decent intensity will 'suck it outta ya' for the swim.  hence an energy drink being sipped thought leg workout and swim will help.  or maybe reconfig your workout so no heavy lifting on a swim day.  squats and there derivatives are really more of a 'total body' movement...when done at decent intensity and going to swim (another total body movement)...u will drain reserves fast.

my thoughts anyway.  not exactly sure what your routine is.

That makes sense. I have noticed that eating the energy bars/shakes, etc that it makes a huge difference. What are the most economical things to consume to help out with this--- and it is best to eat this before or after. My whole workouts usually last 1 1/2 hours total. I do my strength training after my aerobic when possible, but yesterday I did weights first.

TriBarbie,
Have you experimented with any of the post-workout CHO/Protein combo drinks?
I use ENDUROX but there are many different types out there.

Just a thought......

For me, energy is a three-legged stool - exercise, diet and sleep. Just a question - are you getting enough of the latter?

NO...well that is just me.  I know my weakest point with training, other than not being a swimmer, is lack of sleep.  Generally 5-6 hrs per night here.  I do have 2 little girls keeping me awake.  I know my training suffers a little.  I have started drinking Endurox and I think it is excellent for a post workout drink.  (not a replacement for sleep unfortunately!)

I'm told that a little more housework will get the blood flowing. Ha Ha. (I'm Tribarbie's) husband.
