Subject: Hardest ride ever?
Mine was yesterday. I had a short swim from 12-1230 and got home about 3...Went out for my ride at 330....Was planning on doing hills today...Serious hills...3miles in I had just finished a long down hill (it was all up hill heading back) when I hear this noise and the bike starts "jumping gears" then bam chain comes off...Fix it and continue...However the only gear I could keep it in with the chain jumping off was the HARDEST gear I have...So with nothing but uphill hard climbs left I am screwed...I worked my BUTT off for the first 2miles uphill...I had to stop and rest....this car comes by and luckily it was the owner of the LBS that I bought my bike at...He did a quick adjustment to the derailer and said he would follow me a bit....It still wasnt right and chain cam off again but I had made it up the last hard hill...He told me to bring the bike in this weekend and hed take care of...

Wow -- you are one lucky dude! I can't believe your LBS owner just happened to pull up behind you as you were having mechanical problems -- I wish mine would do that!

It seems that whenever I'm driving, I see bicyclists every couple hundred feet, but when I have a double flat (or run into a guard rail like this past saturday), there is never anyone in site or the LBS is already closed. I guess it's my karma. How long will you recover from a ride like that?

Well this wasn't me (because I am not insane), but I think the hardest ride ever would be a tie between the guy who rode RAGBRAI one year on a bike with no seat and the guys who rides it on a bike with no gears. For me the hardest was the two days I rode it last year (with seat and plenty of gears, thank you very much), 82 miles one day and 74 miles the next.  Must not have been too traumatized though, since I'm doing the whole week this year.

Good job sticking with it, if you get these little inconveniences out of the way during training, perhaps the biking gods won't visit them upon you during a race.

......What happens on RAGBRAI, stays on RAGBRAI.   NOT!  I'm bringing lots of film!  Hey Baseball1, you ought to come on this ride some year, the rednecks can mingle with the hayseeds.
