Subject: Cervelo S2 or RS?
I am a newer biker and don't want to go tri bike yet, but I do want to go carbon.  From what I have read, the RS seems to be the more comfortable ride, especially since I want to do longer rides, but the S2 seems more for racing.  Do you think the RS is too "slow"?  I'm slow enough the way it is, but I do ride some rough streets.

I have a Cervelo RS and it is not "too slow". It is very comfortable for long distances on less then perfect roads. The riding postion can easly be adjusted to what fits you to be very fast. The frame only weighs 1050 grams which is about the same as the S2 and most other race ready bikes. It has a very stif bottom bracket so power is transferred to the road as well as any frame made.

Don't take my word for it. The Cervelo Pro race team used stock RS frames for Paris-Roubais race this year. Some of the pros on the team used it for other races as well.

I ride an S2 (the 2008 version which was called the Soloist Carbon) and I think it's fine for longer rides.  I just did a 102 miles last Sunday with no problems whatsoever.  I do long rides (60-100 miles) just about every single weekend...meaning back-to-back long rides on Saturday and Sunday.  I think the key is having a good fitting done.  I don't think you can go wrong with either the S2 or RS.  If you plan on doing a few triathlons in the future, then the S2 is a good choice, simply because it's designed as a "dual-purpose" bike.  But if you want to stick with just long road rides, then I think the RS will serve you well.

ETA - FWIW, I'm a pretty "slow" rider, too...and riding a racier bike like the S2 hasn't made me any faster. LOL  It's not the bike, as much as it is the "engine"...or so I've heard.
