Subject: Swim break though today!
Well after a few weeks of efforts with a serious sinus infection in between, I finally was able to link together a number of laps and do >100 yards at a time in the pool :-). After a warm-up, I did a 200 yard swim which surprised the heck out of me, I rested for 3 minutes then did another 200 yarder that I had to stop only because I looked up for the wall and swallowed a ton of water! Water sure does force it way down the throat when you act like a whale scooping up plankton, lesson learned there! I recovered from this and then swam a 300 yarder! I could have done even more but I was just so happy to do this and I don’t want to over train since I’m new to this swim deal.

It sure is nice when all of a sudden the technique comes together and you just start gliding on the water effortlessly! I was excited when I felt this happening and had to make sure I didn't start going to fast. The sprint Tri is in 23 days, I want to get up to a continuous 600 yards in the pool then try an open water swim or two before the tri. The local club will be doing 3 open course practice runs that I can join up with.

I'm averaging about 2:20 per 100 yards on the swims today with having to turn at the walls. That works out to be about a 14 min 600 yarder, that sounds good to me when I punch in the numbers for what I expect to do on the bike, run and transitions.

Whoo hoo!

Don

Great job! You have to swallow half the pool once or twice in your training career, glad that didn't stop you from driving (or should I say diving) on!

Great swim!
