Subject: Bubble in bike tire, not the tube.
Hopefully this thread is in the right spot, was not sure where else to put it.

I just bought a Cervelo P2C and was in the process of switching the tires from my other wheels on my old bike to the new wheels. The tires are Bontrager Hard Cases. Everything went smooth, pumped the tires up was working on putting the pedals in. When I finished that, I noticed a bubble about the size of a penny protruding a few centimeters out from the tire. I took the wheel off, deflated the tube, and the bubble is still there in the actual tire. I am really not sure how this happened or what I should do about it. The tires have around 7-800 miles on them. If no one knows what I am talking about, I will go take a picture and post it on here. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,

I'll be interested to here if anyone knows what caused that because something similar happened to me when using my trainer this past winter. The rear tire would get little bubbles, and occassionally they would pop very loudly (scaring the crap out of me) but the tube wasn't involved and the tire never deflated...

it is very strange. I was thinking about removing the tube and just sticking a needle through it. Wanted to check with BTers first to get some opinions.

In car tires, it'd most likely be a ply separation.   I don't know if bike tires have plys... but if they do, I'd guess that.

it looks like it has gone down a little bit but not all of the way. Should I stick a needle through it? Will it do it again when I stick the tube back in and air it up?

Problem solved, stuck a needle in it and it was gone. :D
