tmw. will be my first 20 mile run in a set of three over the course of the next month and a half before the buffalo marathon at the end of may. any suggestions? two weeks ago, i ran 18, and although nearly bonking a few times, my nutrition during the run made the difference (steady flow of hydration and power gels every hour).

Start slow. Then over the last 25% (5 mi) you can start picking up the pace.

Start slowly. I don't know what your planned time is for the race, but Jeff Galloway suggest you run your training runs 1:30 to 2:00 minutes a mile slower than what you plan for the race. This way you don't get burned out or injured. I've done my runs this way and it saves your body a lot of stress. I also use GU and Accelerade or Endurox during my training runs. GU every 45 minutes -- sport drink for the second half of the 20 mile run.

Good Luck...I won't be doing a Marathon until next year. Plan on the NYC Marathon if I stay healthy.
