Anyone do the Pacific Crest long course tri in Bend, OR?  I am thinking of making this my A race next year, even though it is so early in the season.  I love Bend and think it would be an awesome course.  They have so much going on that weekend though that I wonder how they do with the organization, etc?  They have been holding it for so long that I would hope that they have it all nailed down.  Anyone know how hard the bike/run course is?

Here's a link to last year's race page which has some race reports

Ah, thanks.  I sometimes still forget that this is a full service websiteEmbarassed  I'm sure those reports will have all that I need.

I am going to do this race. This is going to be my early season "A" race. It will be my first full HIM. It's a beautiful course and I understand it is a well supported race.

I browsed through the race reports & the bike looks like a real killer.  5000+ ft elevation gain in the first 38miles.  The downhill must be great, though.  I saw a couple averages over 20mph.

That doesn't sound right. Where did you get that info?

It is a nice race, but a logistic nightmare. The swim/T1 is about 20 miles from T2. In addition, the finish is not where T2 is, so it seemed like we spent all weekend driving around either picking up or dropping off a bike.

My bad.  I took it from a race report without verifying it against the actual course map.  Mapmytri.com shows it as about 2360ft total vert. climb.  Still a lot, but I climbed 1,900ft in 12  mi. at the Whiskey Dick in Eastern Washington - much more brutal.

i've heard it gets HOT there - i am not sure if the course utilizes the road up to mt bachelor - i did a relay this year (pull, pedal, paddle), and did the bike leg.  this race was just down from mt bachelor to sunriver - something like 3000 ft elevation DECENT.  my average was 28 mph

anyways, likely you have to ride UP part of that during the race, which would be brutal.  beautiful area though!
