Comments: Splits: 9:14, 9:16, 9:21, 9:14, 9:20, 9:15, 9:14, 9:22, 9:08, 8:57, 9:05, 9:24, 9:36, 9:35, 9:43, 9:29, 9:14, 8:56. I kept it very even for the first half. Then I tried to pick it up for the second half, struggled for a few miles (9:36-9:43?) but was able to reign it in and finish strong. What would you do differently?: Not try to pick it up for the second half. Kept the pace even until at least the half marathon point. Approached it more like a half marathon + 5 than 9 and 9. Overall though - very pleased! My longest run in training so far this year has been 14 miles (15.6 total at Ragnar, but that was split up). I think the marathon training is right where it needs to be. Post race
Warm down: Mark was an amazing spectator - he found me while running several times, and he was right there at the finish! We went and had a picnic on the beach post- race :) Then we went to the community center, where they were offering free showers. Felt great to shower before getting in my car to drive 2 hours home! Loved this race with the late start - didn't start until 10:30! So I slept in, woke up around 8, had a banana and a gu, drank some water, and Mark drove me over to the start.
Stretched.
