Last year we had a tailwind on the out leg and a head wind on inbound leg. Not too good. But, if we have to have wind, this kind of wind is what we want. A south wind means the lake will be calm. If the wind is from the north, then it drives waves across the lake and makes the south shore (our swim shore) very rough. Last year the south wind made the lake like glass. I swear is was calmer than the pool I practice in.

I agree, last year that lake was really smooth only waves were from other swimmers and kayaks. Looking at the lake on the way back it was very choppy so yeah wind makes a difference.

I would love to meet up with some BTers to eat Sat night. Although I carb load 2 nights before (very sensitive stomach) so hopefully it can be a place with some regular food as well. Preferably fairly close to the hotel.

i'm coming into nola for race weekend from lafayette on friday evening (a couple hours away) and staying with family who lives there.....i'd love to meet and eat with yall.......let's keep talking it up and see what comes of it........is the concensus italian cuisine with other lighter fare on the menu? I'll ask my aunt.....in addition once i get my bike to transition my vehicle can carry up to 7, so that would be 4 extra seats after my daughter, wife and I. We'd love to be of help.

I met Zia and a few others there @ Mandina's Restaurant last year and really enjoyed the food, plenty of parking and great atmosphere.

do yall wanna make a call right now that we eat at mandina's, its a short cab ride from the hilton riverside.....again for those brave enough to ride with me, my wife, and 7 year old daughter there will be four seats available in our vehicle....open to other places also....just think making a plan early on is the best way for this to work if we all wanna meet

Planning early is best, would prefer someplace closer but since I don't have any recommendations I will go with the group and Mandini's. Either way count me in!

I'll second the vote for some place closer. Somewhere within walking distance would be great. I also have no recommendations though since I've only been to NOLA once and that was a while ago.

I have room for 2 if someone needs a ride also. We are staying at the Hilton Garden Inn by the convention center.

My vote is for Mandina's its not too expensive. I do remember they dont accept credit cards so remember to bring cash. I would say check out both websites and then vote. Let say we finalize the dinner plans by this Wednesday.

Just update on the weather for race day from what I get on The Weather Channel for NOLA which it still too close to call..... 77 degrees and mostly cloudy with rain on Monday

Armand, you are coming up with some great ideas and I'm sorry to be the one shutting them down, really, but I'm a student and I looked at the menu and it is just too pricey for me. If people want to go there, that's fine, but I don't think I can. The cheapest entree that I saw on the dinner menu was $18. So between hubby and I, that's $36 before tax and tip assuming we both get the cheapest thing on the menu and only drink water. Sorry to be such a stick in the mud.

The prices at Mandina's is a little bit more reasonable, me and the fiance are trying to keep this trip within budget, but I do remember that it was alot of food and we usually share 1 meal between the 2 of us so thats how we do it....lol

My vote is still Mandina's
