Pre-race routine:

This was a early race, starting at 7:30AM! Got up at 4:30AM, had half a bagel with cream cheese, and a hard boiled egg. Also a nice big cup of coffee. Left at 5:30AM, and got there around 6:30AM.
Event warmup:

Did some walking around, and lots of stretching.

Comments:

I ran good today, considering this is my first half marathon, and I hadn't run more than 11 miles until this morning. I felt great up until mile 11, then hit the wall. Mile 11-12 felt like forever, but the last 1.1 mile was brutal! I would not change a thing though. The weather was great, a little cool, and drizzle throughout the entire race.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Post race
Warm down:

When I crossed the finish line, I felt like I was going to pass out. My legs were so tired, and I had pins and needles in my feet and legs. Tried to do some walking around, and stretching. I was so spent, that I just wanted to sit down somewhere.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Nothing

Event comments:

Well, 8 months ago, my brother-in-law said you should sign up for the Beach to Beacon race in Cape Elizabeth, ME a 10K. I hadn't run since High School, now 36, so I took on the challenge. I started a run/walk program on April 1 of this year. It was a 4 month program, that lead up to the 10K race on August 1st. I just really got the running bug, and didn't want to stop there, so I signed up for the Chilly half marathon. Never in my wildest dreams did I see myself running 13.1 miles when I started running in April. I choose to do Hal Higdons 12 week novice half marathon training program. It really worked for me. It was a long and tough 12 weeks for me, but I'm so pleased and proud of myself for sticking to it. So now I've run my first half marathon, and could not be happier, except I'm so sore! I'm glad it's over, but I'm so glad I did it, and I can't wait to do more challenging events next year.

Sean,

Great race.   Those hills in the middle were rough, but not as tough as that last half mile. The first one is out of the way, congratulations.  Gives us something to improve on for the next one.

Thanks Jim!  It was a tough race for me, especially those hills!  Glad to get this first one out of the way.  Hope to improve upon this one next year!  Congratulations again Jim!

I'm guessing you were better than 91/95 in age group with that time....
