Subject: Adventure race question/ not tri related
I was wondering if anybody had any information or forums that they new of for adventure racing. I was thinking about getting into some of these races but I cant find any information on the web. I thought that someone that is involved in tri's they might have information about these races. I have gone to primal quest web page, but those are huge races, I want something a lot smaller.

Thanks in advance,

Eric

Here are some links - several of which have forums:

http://www.infiterrasports.com/events/

http://checkpointzero.com/

http://www.chicagoadventureracing.org/

http://www.gofarpodcast.com/

http://www.sleepmonsters.com/index.php

http://www.usara.com/home.aspx

As you may be able to tell from the above links, I am from the Midwest, so I dont have any specific links to your ares, but these are the ones I have bookmarked. I am sure there are quite a few more, but there is not near the info that is available to triathletes.

I have done several races, though I have been focused on Triathlon for the past three years. Adventure Racing is a blast, and each and every race is unique - you never know what the race will be like. I would be happy to answer any specific questions you may have.

Good luck.

Don't assume that being in shape for Tri's means your ready for some 48 hour adventure race.  It will not end well.  (at least for me it didn't...Frown

I will second this. I had done several adventure races, and my first sprint tri kicked my A**. Its really a whole different world.

It's especially challenging if you're the poor, dumb sap who volunteers to carry the 25 pound GPS unit the race organizers made each team carry.  Don't know if that is typical for all adventure races or just the one I did.  That sucker was feeling really heavy around hour 5.  Thankfully, it was just a sprint distance.

Plus, just because you learned to read a compass in Boy Scouts does not mean you can figure out the coordinates used in adventure races.

Those were my 2 blunders.  We still had fun though.

USARA is one of the governing bodies (I think they have a few, unlike tri's with USAT). That should give you a start in your search. Like some of the other links, the ones that I know of are very Texas related and might not give you much about your area.

I agree with some of the other posts, good conditioning doesn't always translate. I've been in great shape and gotten it handed to me by all sorts of people in adventure races. Great fun though.
