I'm a dumb and didn't book at the Marriott.  Now it's sold out.  I'm hoping somebody that did the race last year can recommend a hotel to stay at.  The family is going so it has to be decent.  I'd like to find something on the river close to the transitions and walking distance to spectator areas.

Or perhaps somebody booked the hotel but can't make it now.  Thanks.

See this thread. It had some responses from shortly after the race last year.

I checked that thread and nothing besides the Marriott seems acceptable.  I want something within walking distance for my wife and close to transitions for me.  The Ramada could do it but I'm not sleeping through trains all night and it doesn't sound very safe.

Just so you know, in the morning before the race you've got to go down to transition to set up your things and then walk back up to the swim start.  I think transition is about 1.5-2 miles away from the Marriott and about .5 miles or so from the swim start.

My experience with an off-site hotel was this - it was a 5 minute drive in the morning from the hotel to transition and we got there early enough to get a spot in the parking lot right next to transition.  There was a shuttle from transition down to the swim start, but my mom was with me and I think they had so many athletes that they weren't allowing spectators on the shuttles at that point.  We had plenty of time to walk to the swim start.  My parents were able to walk along the river while I swam and got down to transition for my swim exit and then they walked to the run course while I was out on the bike.  At the end, my car was still back at transition, which was awfully convenient for loading up my stuff.  So don't lose all hope if you can't find something on the river.

I stayed at the Ramada last year, and didn't feel unsafe. Most of the people at the hotel were also doing the race, and the run course passed right by it multiple times. As for trains, I think the problem is mainly early in the morning, but I was already up and getting ready to go to transition when I heard the train come by. I would probably stay there again for this race (but not for anything else).

There's nothing close to transition though. You're going to have to find a way down there, either by walking 1-2 miles (since your bike will already be there) or getting someone to drop you off.

It's almost just as easy to stay outside of downtown for cheaper and buy a parking lot pass for race morning. The only problem with that is that your wife wouldn't be able to go back to the room during the race.

Maybe the Ramada doesn't sound that bad then.  My family will need the flexibility to be able to go back to the room during the race and I like the fact that it's on the run route.  I'll definitely need to check with the hotel mgmt about the train issue.  I'm sure I won't sleep before the race anyway but it might drive my wife nuts.

Hooray! That works. I tried to get a room in December and they said they were sold out. You have to get to the actual hotel site to be able to use it (it is a group code).Thank you

My laptop is having issues and I couldn't get to the local hotel website to enter the group code in.  So I called the hotel directly and said I was with the IM group and I'm reserved for fri/sat nites.  Thanks Cube!
