Anybody out there?

It appears there are two other members of the site that are registered.

6th IM distance for me. First time outside of North America. Who else?

Hey!  Good to hear from you.  This will be my first IM, but many other tris and various multi-sport endurance races.  Have you done Roth before?  Look forward to swapping training tips,

This is my first time at Roth. I have friends who did it a couple of years ago and loved it.

Are you from/in Europe?

Northern Virginia, around Washington D.C.  I understand this is one of the best races in Europe.  Have you booked flights/accomodations yet?  I am bringing my family of five with me and having trouble finding a suitable place.

Regards.

I think there's only a handful of people from the US racing.

I've booked my flight, but need to get my hotel finalized soon. Probably this week.

How's your training going?

I don't recall the exact cost. It's similar, but I believe it was slightly less.

I registered the day after last year's event, so just like most IM's.

Is it comparable? I'm not sure what you're looking to compare. It's a huge event. Over 3,000 entries I think. That includes the relay teams. The crowds are enormous. I believe the race is broadcast live throughout Germany.

I booked my room at the downtown Nuremberg Holiday Inn. The reviews were positive and it has a small kitchen in it. Always a plus race morning.

I am following the BT IM Intemediate program.  It is 20 weeks long, so March 1 was the kick-off.  Weather is still cold/wet, so am doing all of my biking on the trainer still.  How about you.

Airfares are crazy - the most expensive in 20 years I am told.

Hi!
Nice to find you guys here! I'll do my first Iron distance in Roth this year. I asked a few other Athletes which race here in Germany I should choose for my first long distance and they all told me to do it in Roth. The organization and the crowds, the spectators and everything around it is supposed to be overwhelming. It is all like a huge family... I look forward to that day! Have you seen videos on Youtube of the massive crowd at the Solarer Berg? Stunning!
Well, if there is anything I can do for you, e.g. clear some details because of the accommodation or if someone need anything to know about the race or the location around Roth, just let me know and I do what I can to help you!

Take care!

Hi Timo. Welcome to our little group. How's your training going?

I've seen the videos and pictures, and I have friends who've done the race. It looks like a blast.

We've got our travel and lodging taken care of. I just need to figure out how to keep my girlfriend occupied during the days leading up to the race. Any "must-see / must-do" things in Nuremberg?

Hi Scott,

I have to admit that I've never been in southern Germany before since I live in the northern part of it. But I'm sure it's a quite beautiful area there. I'll find out what there is to see and to explore.
Where do you live in the US? I have a good friend in Minnesota and I have visited him twice, the last time in December last year. I like it so much over there!
My training is going quite well - I've no complaints - no injuries....  hope it'll go on like this. I hope you're doing quite well, too! When are you going to  arrive in Germany? Is Munich your destination?
I'm going to rent a camper van and will arrive sometime on Friday the 16th July. I'll bring my girlfriend too and have no idea what she could do there over the weekend besides holding the camera :-

Best regards,

Timo

Hey Scott,

I am actually from Hilpoltstein, home of the notorious Solarerberg.  Our region is know to be the home of Triathlon in Europe.  It used to be the only place where an Ironman was held before the series blew up.  I now live in Virginia Beach VA.  Nürnberg is only 20 minutes away from my house.  There are a lot of things you can do there.  We have a castle that overlooks our old city, lots of shopping, hoistoric places (WW2, Dark Ages etc.)  Your wife will not be bored.  Hope this helps and good luck.  I will be racing in my home next year.

Thanks for this information, Christian. I come from Hamburg/GER and I have to provide something interesting besides the race over the weekend for my girlfriend there, too. Have you ever taken part in the Challenge? I look forward to July. Training is working perfect and I have already scheduled a couple of pre-races to check my condition.

Also so wies aussieht werde ich dieses Jahr noch nicht mitmachen.  Bin aber in 2011 dabei.  Wünsche Dir viel Glück und ich hoffe, dass ihr meine Heimat im Süden geniesst.

Hi!

Only 56 days to go...... I hope your training is going well!
I have no complaints! I finished the Hamburg-Marathon in 03:20h after a 90miles bike ride one day before.... And I felt great! That's a good sign!

How about you guys?

Best wishes!

Timo
