Subject: hydration backpacks
For road running, I have used fuel belts or the amphipod belts and love them.  But I just took up trail running, and I really like the idea of a camelback so that I can 1) carry more water, and 2) have a place to stash maps, cell phone, an extra layer, etc.  I recently went for a trail run with one, but the water sloshed and bounced and was so noisy that it totally ruined the experience.  Any recommendations for a hydration pack that doesn't do that?

Try to squeez all of the air our of the water bladder before you put the top on.  No air = no slosh.

Agree.  Turn the bladder upside down and then suck the air out.

If its just the sloshing, what they said works.  If its the bouncing, try this one:

http://www.amazon.com/Nathan-Liter-2-Liter-Hydration-Flint/dp/B000N0WBIQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=sporting-goods&qid=1268664621&sr=8-1

I'm not promoting Amazon, you can get these at REI, Zombie Runner, and other places.

I picked this up a few weeks ago, after reading the reviews on several sites.  I was a bit skeptical that it wouldn't bounce, but I'm a believer after several long runs, including a 40 miler.   I have not (*knock on wood) had any issues with the bladder, noted in some of the reviews.

There is a women's specific model, that I can't vouch for.

Good luck

Thanks everyone!  I had both sloshing and bouncing.  The sloshing did indeed go away when I sucked out the air.  But the bouncing drove me nuts.  I think I'll give the Nathan pack a try!  I'll report back.
