First and Second Tri 2003 - Ohio

My running buddies came up with the idea that running the Great Buckeye Challenge (1/2 IM) would be fun about a year ago. I agree and registered January 2003. Neither of the guys that said they would do it competed in the tri, even though one did the duathlon.

My first try was Tri-Tech Deercreek 2003 (0.5/22/4) which I completed in 2:06. It was definately fun even though I had only swim once before that in the past year. This was a prep race for the GBC 1/2, but I was definately hooked.

The 1/2 IM I completed in 6:20 which was a little slower than I expected, but I definately gave it all I had. I am planning on training smart and long in the off season to get a stable base to work from for next year. I may run a full IM next year if I feel ready.

My background is running about 10 miles per week (max race distance 5 mile) prior to this year and taking winters off. I never swam more than 1 mile (non-competitive) before this year. I never biked more than 5 miles before this year and only for transportation.
