Total Time = 5h 17m 14s
Overall Rank = 23/98
Age Group = 25-29 MEN
Age Group Rank = 4/14
Pre-race routine:

ate some oatmeal, banana, part of a cliff bar at the house... and a gu on race site before the race.
Event warmup:

didnt really do anything... got in the water and swam maybe a 50? to get water in the suit... did 10 pushups to loosen the shoulders up and thats about it.
  • 32m 12s
  • 1931 meters
  • 01m 40s / 100 meters

i walked out more then 50 of the swim and was in 3rd or so place for the first 100 then slowly moved back a little. NOT HAVING BOUIES on the way in was bad and there were too few of them total hard to know where you are going.
What would you do differently?:

dont really know.
Transition 1
  • 02m 26s

.17 miles from the beach to the T1 bikes... hummm seams pretty far of a T1 run to me. they did have wet suit strippers but they were off to the side and not very visible or being marketed. didnt like running on the concrete sidewalk that much either.
What would you do differently?:

run the whole way and not walk. even though i was a little warn out from the swim.
  • 2h 37m 37s
  • 57 miles
  • 21.70 mile/hr

1/2 decent to good... 1/2 terrible road rough bumpy road conditions. Apparently when you ride on a highway that is not closed course and you are in front of another rider a Course official can and will give you a 4 min penalty for being overtaken and not moving out of the way of this other rider.

this is a hard thing for me to wrap my hands around because i dont want to ride on the crap highway shoulder and not to move in to the side of the lane where cars are going 60mph.

after the race i talked to the official and his explication of what happened was not very good and I basically caught him in his description of what happened to me. and he said that it was right before i saw him on the road. he was infront of me and i was infont of the other rider. so he slowed down and i said hey hows it going. he said hi on the road. and said something to the other rider behind me. and this is when he said i didnt move after being overtaken. if I am in the lead how did i get overtaken???

i didnt have a very nice conversation with that guy.
What would you do differently?:

Nutrition... still trying to toy with what works for me and what dosnt.
Transition 2
  • 01m 11s

smooth easy.
What would you do differently?:

always have a hat available. find out more information about the run course before. to know to wear my white hat.
  • 2h 03m 45s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 09m 27s  min/mile

couldnt find it. i sucked it up. maybe too hot and humid for a first race for the season and maybe didnt drink enough water on the bike.

after i knew that my run was going to really be terrible about mile 2.5. i just started to have fun with it and not really think about it. i talked to volunteers, made jokes encouraged other racers etc. I realized that I didnt want to make my self sick and kill my legs.

What would you do differently?:

not walk - not suck
Post race
Warm down:

went straight to the lake and sat in there for 5 min

What limited your ability to perform faster:

my run or my nutrition / hydration

Event comments:

Great Race!  No idea how you avg over 21mph on the bike on those roads, very nice! ... especially N. Hemmings ... Cars shouldn't be allowed on that piece of crap.
