Age Group Rank = 18/37
Pre-race routine:

ate apple sauce, banana
Event warmup:

swam about 30 yards
Swim
  • 14m 35s
  • 820 yards
  • 01m 47s / 100 yards
Comments:

since it was my first OWS with wetsuits, told myself to relax and not to get in the middle of other swimmers. I let others pass me by moving away from the pack. I think I got too far away from the pack ended up going to far from the bouy. difficult sighting the bouy in the waves.
What would you do differently?:

practice more in OWS and have confident in OWS swim. get used to the combat swimming.
Transition 1
  • 03m
Comments:

I think I did well for the first T1 ever
Bike
  • 36m 24s
  • 11.6 miles
  • 19.12 mile/hr
Comments:

Biked hard to make up the loss on swim. heart rate averaged around 180. Used a hybrid bike my friend gave me few years ago, and felt good to pass people with nicer road bikes.
Drank too much gatorade toward the end of bike which gave me stomach cramp during the run.
What would you do differently?:

drink less. not to push too hard towards end.
Transition 2
  • 01m 9s
Comments:

surprised to find being ranked 72 on T2 for my first Tri. Made up a lot of time passing quite few people who had passed me during the bike.
Run
  • 25m 8s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 08m 07s  min/mile
Comments:

Coming out of T2, my legs felt so heavy. Maybe pushed too hard at end of bike. Felt my stomach cramping from drinking too much gatorade during the bike. Got better towards end. After seeing the sign "No passing" near the Finish line(which was for bike) slowed down only to get passed by another by the finish line.
What would you do differently?:

sprint to the finish line!
Post race
Warm down:

walked around.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

inexperience in OWS.

Event comments:

It was my first tri and even though the OWS was hard, I had a great time!
