Total Time = 5h 36m 34s
Overall Rank = 109/417

Age Group Rank = 3/13
Swim
  • 37m 36s
  • 2400 yards
  • 01m 34s / 100 yards
Comments:

I am quite sure the course was too long or mis-marked. I am sure I was doing 1:35/100, in which case I went 1.35 miles, adding at least 3 min to my time. Looking at other people's swim times leads me to believe it was longer.
What would you do differently?:

Check to make sure I know exactly how many buoys are in play.
Transition 1
  • 02m 6s
Comments:

For me this was a vast improvement.
Bike
  • 3h 00m 32s
  • 58 miles
  • 19.28 mile/hr
Comments:

Not in good bike shape. Heat started to get to me. Rough spots caused some problems, almost crash. It is time to upgrade training and bike. Drank 4 bottles of water and nourished well while riding.
What would you do differently?:

Have nourishment out of packages and broken into bite sizes before the race.
Transition 2
  • 02m 35s
Comments:

Planned extra time to put on socks for run. Tossed shirt to a friend on way out of T2.
What would you do differently?:

Not much. Practice better.
Run
  • 1h 53m 47s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 08m 41s  min/mile
Comments:

The heat was almost unbearable, having not trained in it. A lot of walkers, including me on a few hills. I walked and drank every mile. Still dehydrated. It was survival. A nice wind blew and some shade added to a revival around mile 10-11.
What would you do differently?:

Get better conditioned to run in heat.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of bike conditioning and the heat.

Event comments:

We needed some sprayers and sponges on the run course. There was no relief. Some water had ice in it which I could not stomach. But the volunteers were the best.
